But what he chooses to ignore is their are more 2 and 3 star players out their that will pan out than 5 star. And there are teams that have a proven track record of identifing/developing those players...like MSU, Wisconsin, etc.

Now tDude will counter with, how many Championships have those teams won and point to team crootin' rankings of NC teams.

Well, there are plenty of teams that fail hard with these so called can't miss croots. It is not the stars that make the player. It is the teams that can evaluate the good from the trash regardless of star level. Would I rather pull from the so calles elite pool? Yep. BUT WE WILL NEVER OUT RECRUIT BAMA/ETC. So that is not a sustainable option.

We can, however, recruit players that win BIG Champioships. And that is usually good enough to get in the playoffs.

But but but but...Penn St didn't get in this year?!? Yeah, but a BIG team did and has every year, including MSU.

But I'm afraid to go again Bluto, we lost a gazillion to nothing last time. I don't want to go without 5 star croots. Yep and so did OSU. And we probably lose again, but if you have a chip and a chair anything can happen.

LB Simmons - LB is a definite need and lots of smoke today that he is going to be green.

DE Rodgers - J-Rich cousin right? Michigan native with a recent offer and it looks like we offered a lot of DEs recently. Late OV though, so MSU might be trying to see what happens with the dudes above.

RB Lovett - Just looking at the RBs we are looking at, their offers, where they are from, OV dates, etc. He seems like the most logical choice to commit. If not him we'll definitely take another RB.

WR Blackshear - OV scheduled, he'll flip (to someone) over Temple. Pretty obv we are taking another slot guy.

WR Oliver Martin - Admittedly this is a wish list player. No tea leave reading on this pick other than he is coming for an OV this weekend, we seemed to be on him earlier than others and the Rocky/Iowa connection.

Supposably the guy we really want is John Lovett. Sounds like the interest in the Richardson kid is the backup plan, and he's not feeling the love because of it. Surprising to a lot of player's brother types because Richardson is much higher rated but our staff likes the Lovett kid better. Wonder if this Taylor is the new backup.

This is BY FAR the most attention I've ever paid to crooting. Just happen to be a bit bored this year. My little one is outta diapers and life is easing up on me a bit and I have more free time than I know what to do with, I guess. Thankfully work hasn't kicked me in the ass this year like it did last year around this time. That could change.

I said before, our class is about on par with what we've always done. Probably not quite as highly rated as last year's, but would be higher than most others. That's considering average ranking. Most of the services out there don't rank classes on average rating, they rank them on numbers and rating. So if you run off players every year and sign 23-25 recruits every year, you're going to be at the top of those rankings. Also it is an "off the record" acknowledged fact by employees of these sites that ratings are bumped based on the traffic of a particular school's site so they should all be taken with a grain of salt. Watch the films yourselves and evaluate, or better yet, just ask SpartanRocky to do it.

MSU currently has 17 or 18 (can't remember) commits and we usually sign 14-17 because we RS a lot of kids. I love that plan. However, because of the '12 and '13 classes and additional unplanned roster attrition, we're going to have room this year for 25 (and maybe more). I think we're going to get up to around at least 23+ (including Peat) and I think we're going to be very happy with those kids. Our staff is outfuckingstanding at finding talent that is willing to work to become great.

The hidden gem in this class from what I've heard from player's brothers is going to be Leshawn Paulino. Really athletic rush edge kid out of FL that we got in early on and others followed, yet he remained green. Has elite talent at turning the corner.

Richardson decommits from Clemson late (end of the semester) and then looks at Ole Miss, UCF(?) and MSU. MSU is in play for about a week....then not so much.

Tea leaves...Ole Miss is the main clue.
