The Treasury Department said the U.S. deficit grew 77% in the first 4 months of the 2019 fiscal year (beginning Oct. 1), driven by sweeping tax cuts passed at the end of 2017 and increased federal spending, reports the Washington Post.

not a bad idea.. you had mentioned how much the racist, bigoted christian sexual predator and his antics caused you back earlier in the year (or maybe it was late 2018).. I think I remember my wife saying her 401K dropped around $37,000.DWags wrote:I'm pulling all my money out and going all in on a weed store. Who's with me?

What am I supposed to be spending? I have a rule, which I hate that I use, but I only buy one large purchase that is on a 0% interest rate for up to 2 years. Until I pay it off, or mostly off and no I'm completely clear of having it paid off before the end of the grace period, I don't buy anything else.Floyd Robertson wrote:The Mighty U.S. Consumer Is Struggling

That being said, we were going to remodel our master bath this year, but the tax cut, that gave me back $2500 less than the previous 4 years and a huge cut to a bonus, made us put it off for at least a year. Everything is basically Mortgage, which increased by $300 a month because of property tax increase, which I knew was coming, car payment, groceries and bills.
Its not all doom and gloom though, we did have a couple of trips to Orlando, which don't come cheap. We are also planning on getting a new Fridge this summer, once one of the credit cards is below $200.

Sounds like you're doing the right things, i.e., not spending money you don't have (unlike most of America).
Bottom line is, Americans want shit they can't afford so it goes on credit cards, which they can't pay off because wages have been flat for 40 years compared to everything else.

A sluggish global economy has hurt sales, and the US-China trade war remains a big risk for manufacturers. New emission standards, driven in part by the climate crisis, have also disrupted the industry.
But Nissan has also been grappling with problems of its own. It has been losing market share in the United States and Europe. In the first quarter, for example, the company sold 351,000 units in the United States, giving it 7.9% of the market. It had 8.1% a year earlier.

Re: Bump when these numbers move
So, Warren (who I may being falling for) said something about the impending and inevitable market crash due to weenie's policies.
At what point do we look into pulling way back on the 401k reins? My total is looking pretty damn sexy right now and I wouldn't want to have to see it all disappear like when the housing bubble burst.

Timing a recession, good luck. At the start of his presidency I put a lot of my 401k in very safe conservative funds. Missed out on the upside there. In my IRA I've ridden it up and made a lot of gains but on very short term shit and lot of covered calls.
I agree with you though, the market right now is very expensive and I'm about 60% in cash right now. I also think the next recession is going to be painful but I've felt that way for a while and this thing keeps going up up up!

Re: Bump when these numbers move
AVG JOE here's my take, I do think a painful recession is around the corner. I think the market is bloated, the economy is slowing, the tarifs are a terrible idea and I think once the sell off starts there's going to be a huge panic which will drive the market down. There's more house hold debt, more national debt and interests rates are so low it's what's propping up this party. Sure seeing our accounts and the gains is a lot of fun right NOW but there's going to be a massive hangover when the party is over. I predict a lot of people see their gains wiped out.
My take is I would take the profit (be happy you caught the wave up) and move every thing to a very safe fund or a money market. Wait until the S&P starts finding a major resistance level (could take a year or so) and then put all your money in a vanguard S&P fund and ride up the next boom.
*disclaimer - I don't know shit and this could be absolutely terrible financial advice.

The market dropped right after the markets got a 2 year extension of damned near free money when Congress passed the most recent 2 year budget?
Might be that pesky inverted yield curve is lurking.
