This week, liberals savagely mocked Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson for allegedly comparing slaves to immigrants. It looks like they’ve completely forgotten about all the times Barack Obama did the exact same thing.

Next time progressives decide to skewer a Republican for saying something, it would behoove them see if President Obama has said the exact same thing. Or, at least, stop pretending not to know what Ben Carson is talking about.

^ Fair point Goose but the context seems quite a bit different. The only quote in that link where Obama specifically compares them to Immigrants (the first quote); is one where he specifies that slaves brought here involuntarily were immigrants in their own way.

The other quotes he's more or less just making a general statement about the origins of our ancestors and doesn't mention immigration.

Now I realize that is semantic bullshit regarding the first quote, but the issue is derived from delivery and context. Obama softened the message a bit so I think people more or less just glossed over it. Carson stated it a bit more directly, even make a direct comparison to their enslavement and current immigrant work ethic/hours, the slave's dreams etc. Even though I think he was trying to make the same point as Obama, he worded it poorly and thus finds himself under fire from a hypersensitive media/social media frenzy.

I'll admit when I read it, the statement sounded much worse than it ended up being in the actual video. Bob's quotes were stringed together out of place for maximum offensiveness.

I can't agree with this statement at all Goosie. It's pretty balanced on this board. Might be a slight left lean with some of the louder posters, but there's pretty equal representation from all political leanings on this board. If you think that businesses are going out and hiring people because of something Trump said on the campaign trail, you don't understand how businesses operate.

The stock market is a bit different because of how much speculation is built into the present/future value of businesses.

In any case I was making a joke because Republicans shit on every single Obama jobs report for 8 years, ignored the surging stock market and and now want to give Trump credit for continuity of economic trends that began during Obama's presidency.
