Bank recommendations - SE MI
I'm looking at switching banks from one of the big boys to something else.
Someone, somewhere else, recommended a credit union. Why? I've always been with one of the big banks other than when I was in school with MSUFCU. What am I missing out on?
I'm sure I can get online account mgt and bill pay just about everywhere these days. I rarely deposit physical checks but sometimes need to. Would like either to be able to do that from my phone or a ATM if possible. Don't need much else. Checking card. Checking account I can send my direct deposit to. I don't get cash often but I suppose when I do it would be nice not to have to pay a $3 fee or have to hunt for a branch.
Anyone?

When I moved back I switched from Chase to MSUFCU. I always went with credit unions before I moved to NYC, it's very inconvenient to be a credit union member there. But I've always been under the belief that unless you're moving some real stacks, it's better to be a member of a credit union and do your banking with them.

Credit union one. I like them, and I've never had issues.
Also, they have the lowest interest rates I've seen (so far) for certain loans.

I switched to Flagstar in 2004 and I've been really happy with them. Not too big, not too small.

I know your not looking for a big bank, but I've never had an issue with Chase (dating back to the NBD days). Online bill pay is tits, cash back on their credit cards is solid and there are branches everywhere.

I use maxwell house cans in the backyard. Never had any trouble with hackers.

A credit union is owned by its members, its depositers/you. A bank is owned by outside shareholders.
Logically it makes sense you should pick a credit union. Sorry I don't know any in your area
