I was in the car for 10 minutes today and unfortunately tuned into Valenti and his producer talking about how they have realized schools MSU and UM and mostly even OSU have no shot in the current era and can't compete with SEC.
The truth is until the rules change, we cannot compete on a year in and year out basis. But a 2013 pops up every once in awhile. A 2015 pops up every once in awhile. It's unlikely in the current era that we will ever win a Natty in football. But there are years where the door is open and if the timing is right it is entirely possible.
Frankly the same is true in basketball. We can't compete with UK and Duke year in and year out. But there are windows. Like 2014 and this year.

I totally agree. Our very best is still going to come up short against the best of the SEC, and maybe the ACC.
Curious, though, as to what rules changes they were discussing that might give us a boost that would make us competitive in a head-to-head with Bama in a title game setting?

Reduce scholarships to 75. Boom. Done. (And I know it won’t happen)

Or leave it at 85 but hard cap it. Once you put a kid on schollie there's no washing him out and re-using it for 4 years.
That would stop the 30+ player a year classes.

MSU apparently wanted to hire or talk to Renaldo Hill about a position but he's staying with Duzzi at Pitt.

Well that’s awkward all around. Solaris will mention this in every basketball article he writes for the next month.

As of now, Chambers is planning on staying.
This is one of the transfers I alluded too.

Paul Haynes hired as DB coach. Tressel promoted to full time DC. Will still coach LBs.

MGo claiming it's been discussed but not a done deal. God would that grate them to have someone turn Harbs down for Vrabel. In fairness though Warriner has much closer ties to tOSU people.

Well at face value it explains itself, but what is the job description? Will Treadwell act as head coach for all freshmen and Dantonio has little to no say in what happens with them? Is Dantonio taking on a lesser role now like a Joe Pa? Is Treadwell the next head coach?????
Wildly speculate!

You know I was kidding right? For the life of me I have no idea what that entails.
So here's my wild speculation. We're turning back the clocks on freshmen eligibility and Treadwell is their head coach when they scrimmage other B1G schools.

Also Treadwell had to swallow his pride and come back at a lesser role after tripping on his dick as a HC. Good hire IMO.
Recruiting nerds, how was Treadwell with recruiting?

In addition, Treadwell will serve as freshmen head coach, a new title created to support first-year players in their growth and development both on and off the field.

Less than ten years or so before your time my time Goose’s time at MSU. No freshmen were eligible. Had a freshman team. Man it was different.

MSU has one more opening on its football coaching staff. I anticipate another familiar name, a Spartan legacy, to fill that position.
