MSU has one more opening on its football coaching staff. I anticipate another familiar name, a Spartan legacy, to fill that position.

Just thinking out loud: Is this MD blowing the family a kiss? It’s not like he’s an in-demand assistant. He might’ve wound up at Eastern for a reason, meaning no one else wanted him.

My experience has taught me to trust in Coach D until he calls a fake FG on 4th and 25.

Or leaves gunners out against an 11 man rush.

I don't think it's that, I think it's the MSU connections, passion, etc. I have a hard time thinking that he's unwanted, as I always thought he was pretty well thought of at UCLA and Syracuse. Maybe there were other circumstances that led to his going to Eastern.tGreenWay wrote:WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Bullough

Also, his Wikipedia page lists his first position as coach at MSU, for Defensive Backs in 1997. I don't remember that, but I'll take the leap of trusting Wikipedia. Obviously, that would have been a grad assistant, as we had some other dude as DB coach then. Not sure whatever happened to that guy.

Re: 2018/19 MSU Football thread.
Regarding Treadwell, interesting that he's supposed to be helping with defensive backs, according to the press release. Never done anything on the defensive side of the ball.
Also interesting that both of our new hires that will be working with DBs are former MAC head coaches.

I've often wondered about why coaches don't rotate between the two sides a little more. Suppose you're a receivers coach, wouldn't it make sense that you could flip and coach DBs since you have a good understanding of what you're trying to achieve & exploit? Know thy enemy and all that.

Re: 2018/19 MSU Football thread.
A WR coach might not be able to adequately teach DB technique, hip rotation, etc. (I don't really know what that means, but I've heard far more knowledgeable people than me say things like that when talking about DBs, so I figure it must be relevant). Probably the same if an OL coach were to try to coach the DL.Floyd Robertson wrote:MiamiSpartan wrote:Regarding Treadwell, interesting that he's supposed to be helping with defensive backs, according to the press release. However, what you said may be exactly what Tread's role will be with the DBs. I hadn't thought of that. Maybe you don't want a WR guy being their primary coach, but I can definitely see where it would be helpful to have one in the room.

Re: 2018/19 MSU Football thread.
I love Chuck Bullough. He was my era's Bullough, and was the man my freshman year, one of the lone bright spots in a 3-8 season. He shaved his head at a time when it wasn't fashionable unless you were a biker or a pirate. And I swear he'd have a cut on the bridge of his nose with blood running down the side every game.
Looks like he still has the bald head thing going, but he should cut himself above the nose before every game he coaches. That would be badass.
