Drove past a crew in our neighborhood an hour ago pouring concrete for sidewalks. Jeans, long sleeves, hard hats. Brutal day to be working construction.

77 in EL right now (not sure about the heat index). Heading out for a long bike ride.
This weather sucks but I'm trying not to whine too much about it.

I'm dying to put my bike through the paces today. I've ridden in extreme heat a couple of times already this year (Memorial Day/Father's Day). Probably going to do it again in a few hours but that doesn't mean it makes me happy.
Enjoy the ride.

Hven't been up to my mom's house in a minute. So, I get up here Thursday night, and I see there is shit to do, from windows being cleaned to shit inside and I try to do it Thursday cause I'm golfing friday in a fund raiser. I walk into the back yard and see the grass is long and 50/50 weeds and grass, so I'm bummed because I had a lot of catches with my dad in that yard, and it's just not used at all anymore. Anyway, I say, I'll cut the grass and weed and feed Saturday. I opened the door up today and NOOOOOOOOOOO fucking way is that grass being cut today. No fucking way. Weeds keep growing, I don't give a fuck. Today is air conditioning, or beach. Good luck people with chores and godspeed.

Floyd - I got in 38 miles this morning.. was finished by 9:30, drinking a Strohs by 10:00.
I don't necessarily mind a bike ride in ultra hot weather. A run, however, can be brutal.
Good job getting out!
Heat index = 103 in East Lansing.

Bob, 38 miles is awesome. I'm hoping by the end of the summer to make to up Richmond and back up the Macomb Orchard trail and to Lake St. Clair metro park via a series of trails.
Pantry, if it's not too far out range, go see Ken at Stoney Creek bike on Van Dyke north of 26.
My bike is a Jamis Durango Sport. I think I paid about $480 for it.
Also, the "feels like" right now it 109

That's a nice looking ride, Floyd.
Have a '95 Schwinn Crisscross in the back shed I was thinking of taking in for a tune-up. Needs tires, tubes, brake pads, alignment, etc. It's an old hybrid. I liked the handlebars because they offered multiple grip positions to avoid hand numbness. Schwinn only offered them for a few years because they had a tendency to snag tree branches and yank riders off tight trails. Looked like this

Re: tOfficial Heat Index Thread
Pantry - I'm not sure how to upload actual pictures I've taken. My main road bike is a Specialized. I used to be more into specs, components, etc. These days I just take care of it and pay more attention to the engine (me) than I do the machine (the bike).
For the most part you don't need to spend a ton of money for a decent bike. I'd say you could get a solid new bike for $700-$800. Probably dig around some bike shops and often find good prices for gently used bikes.. people often want to upgrade from a more entry-level bike and, therefore, get rid of a good, well taken care of bike at a good price.

This isn’t mine but mine looks just like it. It’s a 1999 Schwann Moab. I love it. I don’t ride it like I used to but I keep it nice.
It’s got upgraded peddles and a better seat too.
Is that “cranks and saddle” if you are a bike snob, bob?

I looked at some Specialized bikes that Bob mentioned, because Stoney stocks then too. They're good. I wasn't ready to spend $700+ on a bike because i was just starting out and wasn't sure I'd get into it the way I have. I'll make the jump in 3 three years maybe.

Wow. Sitting on Lake Michigan at Manistee. 50 mph winds lightning and hard rain for 20 my minutes. Dropped 15 degrees when it ended. Get ready. Tv 9/10 showed Doppler. Looks state wide as far as length. Wife and youngest are currently on 115 going towards Cadillac. Told them to take cover when it hits. 15-20 minutes at the most.

It was bending trees. Worried about the wife and kid on 115. It lasted long enough where the peeps in the restaurant we were in were scared. Hopefully it loses strength over land. Told the wife to pull over when it hits and hang on for 15 minutes.

If she pulls over, make sure Mrs DWags does it in an area where no trees can topple into her car.

Yikes. Sounds pretty rough up north.
Hope EL doesn't get rain: I sprayed some weeds and don't want the solution to get diluted.
