Yep, I remember him. No specifics, but enough to remember he played defense and his name was called plenty of times, which I take to mean he was involved in a lot of plays.
He would’ve been there when Chuck Hughes died in ‘71.

Googling him, he was Lions MVP one of the years. My uncle and I think we might have pissed him off. His wife was nice. She was the golfer, not him. He got frustrated and said we were playing too slow. Granted, at that point I was playing from the blues on a new course that was tight as hell and I played like shit on the front.

The blues were 6100 yds. White was around 5400.

He did say that he was invited back. He was honored by the Lions, might be considered their best DE.

The guys at the course apparently knew who he was.

Without googling, he wore #74 and was a defensive lineman for the Lions in the 70's. I think he was also in the George Plimpton movie Paper Lion.

I was at the game in Tiger Stadium when Hughes died. My Dad and I found out he was dead listening to the radio driving home.

Heard it on the radio right before walking into the Okemos Meijer with my mom. I would’ve been just shy of my ninth birthday. Many years later, my brother found an old photo/poster he’d purchased of the Lions against Washington (I think it was Wash). There was Hughes in the picture. I wonder if he kept it or discarded it later in life, as many of us do to things we had when e we’re kids.

Was in the car with my parents on the way to the veterans hospital in Dearborn to visit my grandfather, listening to the radio broadcast when he went down. My worst memory in all of Detroit sports.
