Re: Engler
When he came on early I could see the advantages of it and saw how his talents could benefit the university. That was wishful thinking though because the experiment failed and it blew up in our face. He's been an absolute embarrassment and good riddance.

I remember when this whole thing started it was supposed to be Blanchard and Engler. Whatever happened to that idea?

Re: Engler
"The board had two possibilities — former Michigan Gov. John Engler, a Republican, and former Michigan Gov. Jim Blanchard, a Democrat. Both were alumni with long ties to the school. But the state Legislature, then controlled by Republicans, made it clear to MSU — hire Engler or get ready to lose millions of dollars in state aid.
In a closed-door meeting, Democratic board member Joel Ferguson — a Lansing power broker with ties to Engler — flipped his vote to Engler, giving him a 5-3 majority. Later that week, in a public vote, all eight board members voted for Engler to start.
In a press conference after being hired, Engler promised that "change is coming" and that he would "move forward as if my own daughter were on this campus.""

It's a really tough position to put yourself in, I'm not sure a person would be ready to be named full time yet

If Blanchard was the face of the university and Engler worked the legislature and the pay out we would have been much better off.

Well, "we" are fucked because Engler appointed a dude with no experience to run an athletic department. Other than that, we have no real skin in this game f we aren't stupid enough to give money to the U while this shitshow is happening.

Re: Engler
This is some fucked up big brother shit here.
When the school's alumni magazine created an issue dedicated to the Nassar scandal, including several pieces critical of MSU's handling of the issue, Engler cancelled the issue. Instead an issue with a lengthy question-and-answer piece with Engler focusing on what he called the positive changes he had been making at MSU ran.

Unfortunately that's a Governor recall thing. Not gonna happen unless he really REALLY steps out of line.
Gonna have to wait him out until 2020.
PS he has already said he's not running again but he wants the party to give the nomination for his seat to his daughter.

though she'd never delve into the Joel Ferguson cesspool unless it was absolutely necessary - as you suggested - Gretchen would probably love to get rid of him.

Re: Engler
That would be too easy - I'm thinking they have rules to follow, which is why they announced the meeting, and I'm hoping it is a public meeting (unlikely, but it would be fun).Nordic wrote:I don't know how the BoT works. But can't they just hold a conference call meeting today and shit can him?
I'm guessing that Engler is trying to rustle up support today, because I don't see him going down without a fight; hopefully Byrum has done behind the scene work and knows there are solid votes to oust him because it will be another shitshow if he doesn't resign and there are not enough votes to oust.
Again no knowledge of BOT rules, but hopefully all it take is a majority.

Re: Engler
If the party won't give her the nomination, I'd expect him to try to get Whitmer to agree to name her as his replacement if he would resign. Having her on the BOT would then help her get the nomination and likely get elected.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:next up.. Joel Ferguson. Dude's time is up, as well.

BOT elections are close to the worst, as nobody really knows much about who they are electing and the vote for a party or a name they recognize (case and point 3 BOT member had football backgrounds - that is certainly the background you want in order to be elected)
