I used to walk to the train. Whenever I go to the city now I take a bus. It's 55.00 round trip and it's worth every penny. I forget the costs of tolls and tunnel fees but it's easily over $20.00 and that doesn't include costs of gas or parking. Also the buses have a special entrance ramp to the tunnel so you usually zip right by all the cars.
I can’t imagine even having a car in New York. The parking a month alone is more than my mortgage.
For most it is completely unnecessary if not down right stupid, between MTA, Uber/Lyft/etc and on the rare occasion you need a car, short term rental options like ZipCar.
But Steve doesn't live in 'the city'

I just drive my lifted F350 diesel to where I want to go. Prius better move outta my way.
Neat! Probably makes your trips to the dollar general that much more exciting.

And when I'm in my Prius getting 58 MPG I'll just wave at all the F350's that I pass at the gas station.

Re: Toyota Prius
1. My very first car was a '79 Olds Delta 88. It was almost as old as me, a puke orange brown color, had some rust, and did not look badass cruising past the hotties on South Harbor Drive in GH during summers in high school in the 90's. But I loved that car. It had a big engine and drove like it was floating on a cloud. We named it The Beast.
2. First Japanese car was a 07 Camry Hybrid. Great car. Fun to drive, comfortable, looked great inside and out. Had never driven a hybrid before that. Couldn't believe how quiet it was. Sometimes I wasn't even sure if the engine was on or not. It was a lease and we turned it in because my wife wanted something bigger when we had kids. Should have just kept it anyway.
3. Just switched back to American and bought a 2016 MKZ. Love it so far but I'm a little concerned about it long term. There have been a few minor quirks with the engine in sport mode but it has so far corrected itself. We'll see. If I start having problems with this car I'm switching back to foreign and never looking back again. I’ve just had a lot of luck with Japanese cars over the years I guess.

When gas prices start drifting up again, you’ll be laughing at those making fun of you. Enjoy the new wheels.

Right there with you. I’ve owned or leased half a dozen Camrys since ‘95. Absolutely outstanding cars.

Steve knows we're kidding, but you, on the other hand, would have to figure out how to get a man card first, before you'd have one to trade intGreenWay wrote:steveschneider wrote:Rolled off the lot today with a new Prius. I got just under 67 mpg going to the Hardware store just a little bit ago.

Yep, I’ve never been a road bully and I’m more than happy to share the road with all vehicles. I drive about 5 over the posted speed limit, I don’t tail gate and I do my best to have a safe experience. Some times on road trips I’ll allow for extra travel time so that I can take local roads so that I can get a better sense of the towns and the scenery in an area. I stop at local diners and mingle or I’ll stop and read the plaque in front of a historical land mark. I can’t wait to get my Prius out there for an all American road trip.

As long as you're not driving around an Avon Lady Volkswagon Beetle I'm not going to knock your ride. I'll never see myself in a Prius, but you you you cowboy.

In this profile on Ron Artest they mention this -
"World Peace drives a Toyota Prius and a Hyundai with 130,000 miles on it. "
I remember reading the book on Pat Tillman and his teammates used to make fun of him for driving an old Subaru. You always hear about the athletes that blow their fortunes would be nice to hear about the ones that also embrace life styles.

It's the best care I've ever owned. Drove to Philadelphia this weekend and averaged about 57mpg. For one leg of the trip I drove 85 miles and had it up 59mpg.
