Mark Dantonio’s $4.3 million bonus day is here

I'm betting there's going to be a pretty fat envelope left on the offering plate this Sunday.

i don't get these people. if you did something good in your job five years ago and then abjectly sucked ass and refused to make any changes, while still getting paid an insane salary, would you expect to be loved/retained/not criticized?

also, he's a fucking P5 football coach. that job comes with criticism from the public. it's part of the deal and he knows it.

Good. MSU needs to live up to its contracts and Dantonio (who, with input of from his wife) agreed to a delayed payout of $4.3B. It’s based on the last 10 years.

I expect one or two new faces. Bollman can retire and Dantonio could privately justify to a few other coaches why their contracts won’t be renewed. I don’t expect any clearing the decks of 3 coaches on both sides of the ball.

Does MD make enough money for fans to demand accountability? I know we expect the players to be accountable since they are getting a free college education, but is the coach compensated enough for accountability to be a fair expectation?

He’s a public figure. He could make 100k and you can demand accountability. Where I’m not straight on salary is if it comes from tax dollars or voluntary donations. But even if it’s voluntary donations you can demand accountability. What form of accountability? All forms? What standards? It’s a floating target to me.

it's that he REFUSES to make any legit changes.

it's that he's a dick to the media and anyone who questions him.

it's that he blames his fucking players and refuses to put any accountability on the guys who are paid handsomely to recruit and develop those players.

I’ll let you pull up all the posts criticizing him for “next question” or when he walked out two years ago this month and basically told espn to kiss his ass and took zero questions. Save time, their weren’t any. But winning gives you a different perception

he needs to make changes - whether their successful time will tell. but MSU has let him do it his way - no changes, staff reshuffling, and it hasn't worked.

huh? what "feelings"? the admin and fans FEELINGS are that the football program has and continues to be in a downward spiral. the CHANGE they all want is to win some fucking football games.

these are not feelings. don't make me look up offensive stats as well, which makes these records seem worse as watching the games are like slowly cutting your dick off. that, and getting blown out by most of the teams with some sort of pulse.

I think my main takeaway from this payout is that college football coaches can make a shit load of money.

This type of checks and balances are why Austin Robertson gets admitted to the University and Dantonio collects a $4 million dollar payday. There is a middle ground and it’s appropriate to require oversight.

I’m happy with what Coach D gave me and I’m comfortable with him staying until he’s ready to go. I hope the next generation of spartan football fans gets to have it as good as I did while I cared about it. I just don’t anymore.

Then we agree. He makes changes or he goes. He's not living up to the standards he set, and achieved, for the program. He's had his chance to do it "his way" and it's failed. If he doesn't make any changes and wins 10 or 11 games next year, I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong. But that isn't gonna happen at this rate.

This. The number of football games won or lost has no impact on my life. There is no need to care. College football has destroyed itself.

 However, I do get a kick out of those fans who expect more from the labor on the field than the people on the sidelines being paid millions.
