I'm betting there's going to be a pretty fat envelope left on the offering plate this Sunday.

i don't get these people. if you did something good in your job five years ago and then abjectly sucked ass and refused to make any changes, while still getting paid an insane salary, would you expect to be loved/retained/not criticized?
also, he's a fucking P5 football coach. that job comes with criticism from the public. it's part of the deal and he knows it.

Good. MSU needs to live up to its contracts and Dantonio (who, with input of from his wife) agreed to a delayed payout of $4.3B. It’s based on the last 10 years.
I expect one or two new faces. Bollman can retire and Dantonio could privately justify to a few other coaches why their contracts won’t be renewed. I don’t expect any clearing the decks of 3 coaches on both sides of the ball.

All good points. However I’ve never treated MSU like I’ve treated Green Bay Rodgers or the Bucks. I know that’s irrational, but when I hear criticism of MSU, it’s different to me. I mean criticize all you want but there seems to be a line that’s crossed with MSU where I think you’re an ass. Green Bay? Fuck, I want them to win but if they lose I could care as much about those fuckers as the next guy. Just being honest.

Does MD make enough money for fans to demand accountability? I know we expect the players to be accountable since they are getting a free college education, but is the coach compensated enough for accountability to be a fair expectation?

He’s a public figure. He could make 100k and you can demand accountability. Where I’m not straight on salary is if it comes from tax dollars or voluntary donations. But even if it’s voluntary donations you can demand accountability. What form of accountability? All forms? What standards? It’s a floating target to me.

LOL. I guess. But I think it would be interesting to see what “standards” we’d all list as wanting him to be accountable for. Ten people ten different lists I’m thinking.

disagree. it's not just the suckiness of the O.
it's that he REFUSES to make any legit changes.
it's that he's a dick to the media and anyone who questions him.
it's that he blames his fucking players and refuses to put any accountability on the guys who are paid handsomely to recruit and develop those players.
he's giving a giant middle finger to the fanbase and i don't know why people refuse to see it.
if fans didn't follow MSU football, go to games, buy gear, and watch games on TV, Mark Dantonio would not be a multi-millionaire.
Spare me the bullshit about "molding young men" or whatever. if CFB wasn't a money printing operation due solely to fan interest, Mark Dantonio would be "molding young men" for $45k a year at some ohio HS while also teaching remedial geometry.

Great list. I guess.
I’ll let you pull up all the posts criticizing him for “next question” or when he walked out two years ago this month and basically told espn to kiss his ass and took zero questions. Save time, their weren’t any. But winning gives you a different perception
So your accountability list is
Make “legit” changes. (Do they need to be successful?)
Treat the media nice
Blame himself for losses
Let’s all be realistic here.
List of accountability:
1. Win
2. Do one and who cares.
And don’t give me the bullshit about “be respectful to media and fans”
Nick Saban is neither of those. Alabama just doesn’t care. Know why?
1. Win.

you're absolutely right. but he's being a dick to people rightfully questioning him and he's acting like he's winning big ten titles still. he's not.
he needs to make changes - whether their successful time will tell. but MSU has let him do it his way - no changes, staff reshuffling, and it hasn't worked.
when things aren't working, you have to try different things. period.

3-9
10-3
7-6
7-6
these are not feelings. don't make me look up offensive stats as well, which makes these records seem worse as watching the games are like slowly cutting your dick off. that, and getting blown out by most of the teams with some sort of pulse.

Cool. Hire a coach who will be confident enough that he doesn’t Cow tow to asshole fans telling him, “hey we want you but this assistant has to go”. Fuck that guy as a head coach. Fuck idiot fans that somehow want Dantonio to stay but want him to change.
If 3-9 10-3 7-6 and 7-6 aren’t good enough fire his ass. We have a long storied history of doing better. Get another guy in here.
But don’t hire a spineless coach that would bend to athletic directors or fans. They don’t work.

This type of checks and balances are why Austin Robertson gets admitted to the University and Dantonio collects a $4 million dollar payday. There is a middle ground and it’s appropriate to require oversight.

It’s really weird how this stuff doesn’t faze me at all anymore.
I’m happy with what Coach D gave me and I’m comfortable with him staying until he’s ready to go. I hope the next generation of spartan football fans gets to have it as good as I did while I cared about it. I just don’t anymore.

Then we agree. He makes changes or he goes. He's not living up to the standards he set, and achieved, for the program. He's had his chance to do it "his way" and it's failed. If he doesn't make any changes and wins 10 or 11 games next year, I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong. But that isn't gonna happen at this rate.

Dude I get it. Coach O made that decision. Saban changed his offense. I get it. We have a guy who seems to think he can do it his way and win. I like that in a head coach.
Don’t confuse me wanting my head coach to be demanding of his assistants and looking to innovate with me wanting to keep Dantonio because of his system.
I think somebody should have sat him down and said I don’t like the way the program is going. We’d like you to resign. Nobody did. So here’s what we have. I personally don’t think there is a thing he can do or a coach he can hire to get us over 7 next year. But I like the way he believes he can do it. It’s what I want in a coach. If you can’t understand that I cant explain it any better than that. I’m sorry.

I’m good with what ever he does as long as he wins. If he doesn’t, he’s been paid well. Thanks.
No, he wins or he goes. How he does it is his fucking business but he needs to do it. I don’t know how to explain that.
If he thinks Bollman and Stanton can coach these fuckers up to 9 wins, good for him. Do it. If he thinks he needs to kick every mother fucker out of the building and bring in Ferris States staff plus the line coach from Mesick high schoo and that wins 9 great.
Please scroll up and look at my number one standard. 1. Win
How he does that is his fucking business.

ok you just described every coach who has ever lived.
although it would be fun to be in an interview where a candidate said "you know, Mr. AD, I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose most, if not all of the games I coach, but I'd sure like this job anyway."

I’m very confused so I’ll leave it at this. I get why people would criticize him and think he should go. I get why people think he should be able to stay as long as he’d like. To get worked up about either is worthless.

I LOVE THAT HE'S CONFIDENT IN HIS TEAM'S INABILITY TO SCORE POINTS! GIVE HIM MORE MONEY!

This. The number of football games won or lost has no impact on my life. There is no need to care. College football has destroyed itself.
However, I do get a kick out of those fans who expect more from the labor on the field than the people on the sidelines being paid millions.

The refs get paid. I expect them to make good calls.
