One final tip. You don't have to fight everything you see. While fun, you can easily blow buy anyone on horseback or sneak by on foot. You can also avoid most bosses (I do). Juice isn't always worth the squeeze. There are ways around, just gotta hunt for them. When on horseback, zig zag around to pickup stuff, find rando items, work arounds, trails, etc.

i know building a mage/range character always seems fun in the beginning, but then it may be simpler to just be a meathead. do you think you lose a lot on not utilizing them all that much? but you said you use a bow a bit?

those options seem fun and are more my style, so it'll be hard to stay away at least one. do the combos play off each other at all or are they just separate skill sets?

Nordy I’m lvl 10 after finding the third gold thing and talking to my maiden or whatever the fuck is going on.

Been following your advice. Went with vagabond or some shit the balanced one.

Need to get used to rolling and avoiding the hits from enemies.

Pretty sure that is what I did. Just keep upgrading Strength till it gets to ~20 to increase weapon damage. You will see them go up in blue when you're on the upgrade menu. If the damage stops going up, switch to Dexterity. Same thing, weapon damage should go up. Pick the one that gives the most blue. The only other upgrade to consider this early would be Vigor(?). Whatever one increases your load capacity. If you keep your load weight under 70% of max or "heavy", you can move and roll faster.

I've done a couple. But with flasks it is not as critical. The quicker you can kill the better.

90% of my upgrades have been Str and Dex. I should probably jump to Int at some point to utilize the special weapons I have in storage.

So is Elden Ring a good game?  It looks like it should be highly interesting to me as I've enjoyed games like Skyrim.  I have a decent computer to play anything I want.

The problem I have is that I've been playing a lot of Zelda Breath of the Wild with my son on switch.  I find the Lynel enemies in that very difficult because of the way they come at you and lunge.  I have not been able to master the dodge/perry and you can pretty much get by Botw without doing that if you want.

When i watch someone playing Elden Ring, it looks like all the big (boss?) enemies basically act like the lynel enemies where they have a move they run at you/lunge with, and so you pretty much have to master that timing & dodge technique that I'm horrible at.  So I'm a bit hesitant.  Might be a bit easier for me on mouse and keyboard though, system controllers don't come natural to me like a mouse/keyboard.

I'm not good at the big boss fights either. Which is why I skip most of them. Though I've been getting better.

The general gameplay is the same. Enemies locations and triggers are also patterned. But it is fun to figure out.

Spent the last 3 days riding around trying to figure out a way to the next map area. Today I ran into the boss that I need to beat to get through the main gate. I have zero chance of beating this boss.

I also found out I need to go back and beat 2 other bosses I skipped. Good news is hitting them after I've bulked up a bit was much easier. I was able to kill Godrick the Grafted in Stormveil Castle on the first attempt. I probably would of died 40 times the first time I was there.

I'm at 60+. I have no idea what lvl I'll need. But he's big, has a horse, gold armor, big spear and apparently knows lightning tricks. I can tell just by looking at him I have no chance

Yes. I was a good ways through before I even knew you could do. It takes some practice moving around with the lock on. And I don't always use it.

The biggest benefit is you can click on it repeatedly when entering a new room or area to see if there are any enemies hiding. If you have a bow, you can then zoom in and head shot them.

It definitely takes some practice. Use the guys at the beginning to learn. Also hit the 3 caves in the area. It will click. But even then, you will die a lot.

Sounds right. But like bashing with my mace.

I use the bow a lot. Started upgrading a Giant Bow. Not as versitile as the regular box, but works against bigger single units.

Got Rennala on try 3 last night. Which means I've acquired the necessary 2 Great Runes to make it through the main city gate.

First test run on the dude that is guarding the gate. Did better than I thought. Got him down to 50%. But lost my meat shield (summons). Need to find the right weapon combo and kill him quicker, but not as impossible as I thought.

Over pays. Took me 10 tries. I had him clinging to life on the 4th and 6th attempts, but fucked up.

Now making my way through Leyndal Royal Capital. Slow going. Dying a lot. I've lost 50k+ ruins not being able to back to my loot after dying. Lvl 75

I don't foresee that being an issue since I have no Xbox games prior to now and almost all previous versions are available online.

Thought of that a bit but wasn't sure. It comes with 512gb and one of the first games I wanted to try was 110gb...

It does have a couple expansions slots so I think it's manageable. We aren't serious gamers by any stretch.

Spent the last few weeks making my way through Lyndell the Capital. Place was massive, but fun as hell. Leveled up quick here. I'm at the final Boss fight. I've given it a few cracks. Got my ass kicked. Gameplans adjusted. From what I can tell, getting through this asshole and I'm in the backstretch. Boss is going down after this Maple Leafs game.

Still motoring along. The above seems like eons ago. There are 14 main areas. I'm nearing the end of 13th. Killed the first mandatory boss after a dozen tries. Now making my way to the last boss.

Once I'm through there, I'm in the final section.
