Question regarding MSU's defensive strategy this year. Am I crazy or they switching on D more than in the past? Especially on the high ball screens. I seem to recall we never switched on D, the defender had to fight through the screen, either over or under. MSU always went over to prevent the 3 and would help down low on a dribble drive.

Now we seem to switch on the high ball screen much more. Which a lot of teams do. Just don't recall us doing it in the past with Izzo's strict manball principles.

I don't think it's anything different. The primary option is for the big to hedge/show until the primary defender can recover but there are instances where a switch is unavoidable. I definitely did notice a few switches last night but I don't think it was anything out of the ordinary.

I think the general trend in NBA defenses over the past decade has been a lot more switching, and some of that has reached the college game as well. I don't know about this year vs last year, but this year vs 2010 I would pretty much guarantee we switch more now.
