Banks are closed today in all states except 3.
The NYSE and the NASDAQ are closed today.
Even schools are closed today.

Physically, it would be so easy to bite off the top third of my pinkie finger. Emotionally, I’d miss that little niblet.

Trying to remember the name of the movie where a guy was given the choice of chewing off a finger instead of being shot dead. He couldn't do it and got shot dead.Motown Spartan wrote:tGreenWay wrote:Physically, it would be so easy to bite off the top third of my pinkie finger. Emotionally, I’d miss that little niblet.

My sister had some excavation done on her lake property. They're everywhere.
Maybe a silly question but what to do you do with Petoskey stones when you find them? Collect them? Build stuff? Sell them? ( that can't be worth much, it's a rock)

Sell them to tourists for a ridiculous amount of money. Not really, you have to hand polish them so it's a little time consuming. They're fairly soft so they don't fare too well in a rock tumbler.

That was my next question. How to polish them and if a rock tumbler would work. My daughter loves collecting rocks and worms lol

My mom and aunt would polish them with lacquer or clear nail polish or something. You need to do something to bring out the design. Otherwise, they just look like any grey stone when they're dry.

I haven't made a habit of it, but I bought a tile/stone cutting thingy from Harbor Freight and I have cut slices of Petosky Stones with it. Sometimes you find one that can be fairly large, and show mild signs of the patterns, but when you slice them you get the full effect.
Then, to your question. I pile them next to the stone cutter and go do something else.

This guy does them in a tumbler, so it can be done. Otherwise you start with a coarse sandpaper and work your way through increasingly finer sandpapers. Wet sand in a circular motion, kind of like the Zappa song, Nanook Rubs It style or 40 Dollar Bill style, your choice.
BTW he's a scUM grad but he does know what he's doing.

Ok, I wasn't going to post this, but since you went there. I used to spend times in hotels in Lansing because I pretty much worked all the time and lived far away. And for some reason, I always removed my jewelry when I went to bed. So one day, I check out of the hotel and as I'm walking out the door I noticed I didn't have my wedding band. I freaked... and not so much about it being missing (which was important) but more so the appearance and explanation I would have to give my wife.
The hotel desk clerk took on the same aura when I asked for a key to search the room. Fortunately, I found it lying in the hallway elevator lobby. I had placed in my pocket and it popped out when I removed something.
tWife has lost stones and broken hers as well. Basically, we haven't worn them for about 20 years now.
(oh, and the bitch mistress wouldn't even help me look for the ring)

I wish mine would be that easy to find. I had my hands into about a thousand different things yesterday, looking for screws in several junk drawers in my garage and my pole barn. Pawing through my tool box and piles of stuff next to it. Loading brush and unloading brush. Climbing up and down ladders installing a light outside and taking down a weather station. Digging out my yard roller and using it. It could be literally anywhere in my yard and quite possibly rolled into the ground. It's been fitting real loose lately and I kept putting off buying a ring sizer so I wouldn't lose it.

Time wise, I would start with the drawers and toolbox. After that, maybe you have a friend with a metal detector?

Every 80 years we go through a crisis. The last one was around 1940-1945. This one will likely be 2020-2025. I noticed that men and women born after 1992 tend to have smaller head sizes. Since those born after 1932 men have been peddled the “lose all hope is freedom” hunter gatherer mentality. This smaller head size and larger body size is an emphasis on the “hunter” mindset. Those artists born from 1913-1932 had a very large head size. “Farmer” mind mentality. Since those born after 1992 (1993-2012) is a reflection of this state of mind. These men and women are the “artists”. Those born from 1893-1932 basically had master farmer mind mentality. While those born from 1973-2012 are the ultimate savages.
Since a crisis happens every 80 years, and we tend to segregate generations then there must be a new generation every 20 years.
Thus:
2013-2032: Prophets
1993-2012: Artists
1973-1992: Heroes
1953-1972: Nomads
1933-1952: Prophets
WWII Crisis: 1940-1945
1913-1932: Artists
1893-1912: Heroes
1873-1892: Nomads
1853-1872: Prophets
Major Crisis: 1860-1865
1833-1852: Artists
1813-1832: Heroes
1793-1812: Nomads
1775-1785 American Revolution crisis
Older artists are usually foot soldiers of crisis. Heroes are the heroes of the crisis. Younger artists are too young to fight the crisis. Nomads are the older leaders. Prophets are just watching from afar. Old artists are in nursing homes or chillen in retirement
