Whatever. He should either see a doc to get some drugs or a psychiatrist to discover how the sounds he makes don't drive himself crazy. It's fucking disgusting. All. Day. A small loaf of zucchini bread at the last of my local farmer's market season this morning. I think that was the last thing. I don't know it could have been the actual zucchini or acorn squash.

Re: What's the last thing you bought?
About to buy a small chest freezer for the garage. Gonna store bird seeds and mixes in there long enough to kill grain moth eggs. Those damn moths got ahold of two full bags of seed. That’s 40 pounds of cocoons and larvae/worms crawling around. It’s so nasty not even possum nor skunks will eat it.
Oh, and gonna buy two more bags of bird seeds to go along with it. I’m so glad I don’t have kids to put through college.

They're great. Maybe not the best for you when you load them up with butter, brown sugar and maple syrup but hey you only live once.

Not a fan of the brown sugar/maple syrup on them, but you’re right about the butter. I go overboard with butter when it comes to cooking squash.

Started this thread with the Ninja Woodfire Grill. Ninja recently came out with a 30% larger version. Two probes and can monitor/change cooking temp with your phone. Don't need the extra capacity or wireless but thought others might be interested. The original has worked great.

I hate to be that guy, but really? No wonder the world hates us. We pillage the world for resources, create extensive environmental damage in these foreign lands, and suppress wages to those working to create devices, so we can have a grill that connects to my smartphone. God forbid that I get off the sofa and check the thermometer visually.

Showed up already. Might have to test it tonight. Pretty easy to buy tortillas at the store.

I just bought a 30-pack of corn tortillas so I can make enchiladas. Is it better to press your own?

Made some tortillas last night. Had soft tacos. Tasted pretty good. Mentioned that they would be great for enchiladas.
I think the best way to describe them would be like if you had some at an "authentic" Mexican restaurant and could tell the tortillas were home made. It just adds another 20 minutes or so to your prep time.

I have an older JBL portable speaker and it surprisingly good for it's size. Tailgate buddy brought a JBL boom box to the last tailgate and that thing could belt. Big fan of JBL portable speakers.
Costco has them on sale for the non-WiFi price. I went there there to get two JBL Charge 5 Wifis. Also walked out with the Boombox and 5 gal bucket of mixed nuts.

Nothing against you Pantry, it just the consumer society sometimes drives me nuts. It could have happened to several posts in this thread.

Okay, I am sorry I derailed this topic, so last post.
I completely agree with you about technology being a part of the solution, as my work sort of involves it. My current research is looking at carbon capturing to create methane, which could then be used as a so-called E-Fuel or heated to have the carbon fall out as solid material and vapor H2 thru methane pyrolysis. The CO2 isn't coming directly from the atmosphere but effectively from exhaust gas at the stack. One would think finding support for such research would be easy, but there are so many charlatans out there (looking at you Occidental Petroleum) it is difficult. We just wrote the proposal for the next phase and the sponsor says it looks promising, so fingers crossed (Daumen drücken).
My problem is when technology is used to do frivolous things, like sending the temperature to your phone (not picking on you Pantry). There is a tremendous amount of energy that goes into mining and refining the rare earths that are used in these things. Some may say yes it can be recycled. Well, yeah, in theory. But that too is a difficult and energy intensive process. Ask my colleagues who are doing research on this. Did you know that less than 5% of the Lithium batteries are recycled? And the lithium that is recovered costs something like 30x that of simply mining it. What do you think the capitalist will choose?
Bill Gates said that we cannot solve climate change (tangental topic) by asking people to consume less. The real point is that people do not want to "feel" like they are giving something up. Well, if I never buy a grill that connects to my smartphone (AGAIN, NOT PICKING ON YOU Pantry) I won't feel like I am giving it up. It is not anyone on this board's fault. It is the stupid society's fault that we are treating capitalism like a religion. Because I am part of this society, I know am part of the problem (and I guess Pantry is now part of the problem). I just hope that we individually start to make choices that we don't need so much shit, and maybe we can do something more productive with our money.

"Frivolous things" is a relative term. If you live in a modern country in the 21st century you have and use "frivolous things". Unless you are Ted Kazinsky. Drawing a holier than though line on 'my things aren't frivolous', but yours are is
Regarding the above. Knowing the temp in theory should save on cook time and produce less fuckups and waste. Hence use less energy consumption.

Also directly less gas because every time you open it you lose a considerable amount of heat that the grill will then have to fire up to account for.Nordic wrote:"Frivolous things" is a relative term.
