I missed this somehow.  To answer,  there could be risk.  My wife can work anywhere though.  She doesn't want to and all of her family in the US is here,  so a move would be tough.  I just don't like the direction this state is moving in.  Good ol boys are taking over.

Thanks, my 2 cents, family is more important.

Wait, dems took the MI senate and house?

If yes, I am shocked.

Edit: yes it's true. Looks like dems have 56 of 110 House seats and 20 of 38 senate seats. Never thought I'd see the day. I guess this is a really really good example of just how bad republican gerrymandering is for this country. What unamerican trash. Whitmer should have a real good two years !

As I said, if the Democratic "moderates" hadn't refused to block the filibuster for the Voting Rights Bill in the Senate we could have had fair elections in all the states, since it copied the redistricting requirements from the CA system, which were what MI copied also.

However, they still have from today until January 3rd to change their minds.

Not much gets done, either due to Democratic "moderates" in the Senate, or due to the Repubicans controlling the House, if that happens.

What the Democratic Party needs, a national Voting Rights Act that mandates fair districting, like Michigan and a few other States have, and fair voting, which no place seems to have, is very unlikely, and very possibly would be declared unconstitutional by the now radical Supreme Court.

If trump runs, there will be an opportunity to take everything in two years and get what you are dreaming of.  Democrats right now should be out organizing reproductive freedom related ballot initiatives in every contested state.  Add in another proposal or two (MJ, and a minor voting rights proposal?) And maybe you can generate a big blue wave.  Michigan should be seen as a blueprint for taking other states.  You need these issues to motivate as many democrats as possible.

Michigan passed the Redistricting Amendment to the Constitution pretty much on its on in 2018. This is a popular idea, which if other state populations can get it on the ballot will most likely easily pass everywhere. Those other things would be good, also, though. The issue is some states do not have ballot proposals by popular petition, or the process is hard to execute, thus a national law is probably needed.

A quote from a sane Republican ...

“If our party is going to be focused on carrying out the delusions of one man over electing candidates and controlling policymaking in the state, we will be a minority party for many years to come."

https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/historic-ass-kicking-may-prompt-michigan-gop-rethink-trump-candidates

IMO the Republicans didn't see what redistricting was going to do to them, sort of a "white privilege" mind set only about how the voters feel.  The Trumpers didn't help, though. The Republicans were not alone in this blindness, however. If the Democratic Party had been smarter there would have been a Democratic Representative going to Washington instead of Representative James.

I have always been proud to have been born, grown up, and lived most of my live in Michigan, one of only a few states which has never had the "death penalty" in its penal code.

That the State is becoming one of the more balanced in terms of gender in its state government is just another great thing that has happened in Michigan.

Yep, If he raises money for others, it takes away from money that people give him. I doubt Republican candidates were deluded into thinking otherwise, but I'm sure the rank and file Trumpists would think it's fake news that he doesn't help their campaigns financially.

I was afraid of that after I typed it that the process might be different and harder elsewhere. No doubt in the Republican states most likely since they seem to abhor power granted to the citizenry, especially power that can bypass the legislature like this. But surely there are some states where it remains a possibility and remains a pathway to energizing the democratic vote, enough to pick up a senate seat or two and a hand full of house seats, which is likely all that will be needed to gain full control. As I said, at this point michigan should be viewed as a template for purple states for sure and probably Also for republican lean states to pick up house seats at a minimum.

Tally of Races 2022 Election

If I am reading this correctly, and that is unlikely because of the following.

It looks like the Democratic Party is going to hold onto the House with 225 members or more.

edit - just for perspective - a bunch of these uncalled races are in CA...

Well, 211 seats have already been called for Republicans and so if Democrats win every remaining contest (seems unlikely) they would only have 224.

I'm not real smart and I wasn't sure what that table was saying.. so keep me posted. I'd be surprised if the pro-America, pro-democracy contingent holds onto the House. I do think decency will prevail in the US Senate.

I think I was double counting some races, so probably not, though it is possible still, the Republicians still need 8 more seats gor the majority

I suspect they'll take the majority.

I kinda hope they do 'cause it'll keep their incredible stupidity and dysfunction on display for decent Americans to take notice of.

so, ya know, the next time AOC says something outlandish about Americans deserving affordable healthcare, a random christian GOP House member will talk about drag queens performing sex change operations on your children's playground at school.

win/win for decent folks. We're reminded that Democrats are on the side of regular folks and the christian GOP is approaching Charles Manson-levels of insanity.

So the big "victory" at this point would be controlling the Hunter Biden prosecutorial wing of the Fed govt? Right? & Hell we've learned from the orange conman's unfortunate offspring, you can get away with anything when your daddy's the prez.

It's not like any actual legislation would get done that didn't "pwn libtards" (which leads to NOTHING...) right?

yep - the patriotic christian right isn't interested in governing, working toward the betterment of the American populace. They're only interested in whining, amplifying manufactured outrage to their gullible base and inflicting pain on Americans that they deem less than human (brown folks, women, LGBTQ+, etc).

Trapp's overly optimistic statements fool me quite often. Dems could still lose senate and are going to lose the house. I know some libertarians will vote dem but they tend to lean R and those votes could bite Warnock. I hope I'm wrong, don't quote me, I think this was a similar scenario last time in Georgia and the dems prevailed.

Yeah but don’t forget that Herschel Walker is a steaming pile of dog shit of a candidate. There was some amount of there to vote for kemp and since I’m here Herschel too voting in the general. In a run off it’s a ballot of just Herschel. Some won’t bother

Don't listen to me. I'm a pollyanna.

Still the Republican HOR is not a sure thing.

The Republicans have 210 sure seats, the Democratics have 215 sure seats.  The last 8 seats are too close to call but pundits believe they lean Republician

I really can't stand gerrymandering. I can't imagine a more unamerican thing politicians could do and Republicans have perfected it. Democrats have to do it where they can to have any hope of keeping up.

Just saw that the Michigan GOP just released a statement whining about Dixon. Dixon fired back whining about them. 2022 Midterm & Michigan Elections - Who Ya Got Winning? - Page 4 502811600

Stick either me here, but it's almost like an entire political party built on racism, bigotry and misogyny and whose christian leader brags about raping women while mocking disabled people isn't a winning formula....scratch 2022 Midterm & Michigan Elections - Who Ya Got Winning? - Page 4 502811600

All people like RQA see is skin color when it comes to civil rights, CRT and white privilege.

They don't actually see the issue, which they claim doesn't exist.

Latest thoughts on the HOR.

Keep in mind that these pundits and prognosticators have had to dial back the Republican numbers drastically (from 30 to 8) ever since the polls closed.

My expectation is that the Democratics pick up one or two more seats from this, my hope is they pick up three.

Just need some clarification on when we are supposed to use gender and skin color and when we are not.

As of this morning the GOP is at 211 with 27 seats yet to be called.

The GOP taking 7 of those seems more likely than the dems taking 21 of them.
