Kevin McCarthy

Sibling who lives in NoCal has a neighbor who grew up in Bakersfield, went to school at San Jose State, got hired by Apple and has never looked back.  

His father went to HS with McCarthy in Bakersfield.  Both stayed home  getting degrees from Cal State-Bakersfield. (His father became a HS teacher)

According to him, McCarthy has always been a schmoozer climbing the ladder whose goal was to become a U.S. Senator.  With the GOP being DOA for statewide offices, becoming House Speaker has become  the ceiling.  

McCarthy is finding out, like Eric Cantor (who was also angling to be speaker before losing in the primary) schmoozing a first term President who lost re-election isn’t enough to satisfy the GOP hardliners who think McCarthy isn’t “tough enough” to support their agenda.

Maybe I'm missing something. Every report I see are calling the group blocking McCarthy as "conservative". Not even close, right?

Conservative like the Southern Senators before the War of Rebellion were Conservative.  In favor of what the Conservatives of 1730 were in favor of, the superiority of the "upper" classes & the rightness of oppressing the serfs & slaves.

So he lost a 4th vote. As a matter of fact, he lost despite Trump's endorsement. What a clown car.

Has the freedumb caucus said who they will support? Isn't it possible they just bring things to a halt, because they would never agree, or would some more moderate Republicans get fed up and switch votes to a Democrat? I honestly have no idea, other than right now this is kinda amusing.

Jeffries is not going to be speaker for this Congress. Dems should try something that isn’t cynical. If not a Kinzinger or Cheney or Upton then what is the proper thing to do?

Not that the rules preclude them, but none of those are in this Congress anymore. I’d be surprised if any would want to serve. Besides, Cheney and Kinzinger wouldn’t get it because of Trump, and despite being well liked, Upton is considered a RINO by too many in his own party.

Is he 0-6 now? He could coach UM in bowl games with that kind of record.

I don't think his detractors have a person in mind; they want to break things for the sake of breaking things. They are like Guest at Bob's Cotton Bowl watch party.

Why, in the name of sweet little baby Jesus, do they need to do anything to bail republicans out? No. They certainly do not need to do anything at all. Forcing republicans to legislate and appear to be adults is not their job.

The Republicans have the majority, even if they cannot decide on one person for Speaker.

Any proposal for a compromise, with the Democratic Party, Speaker, has to start with the Republicans.

Byron Donalds has a whole Four YEARS experience as a member of Congress after 4 years in the FL House of Representatives.

As speaker he’d  be driving the bus with a learner’s permit in his first leadership position.

Look at the Hope Hicks texts to her other White House buddy on January 6th. They were worried about their careers because they knew they lost the election and the Capitol riot would damage them for life. It had nothing to do with America or the Election. They are happy to ride nutter Ginni Thomas and whomever else as long as those checks clear.

I always bring IPA’s. I haven’t punched anyone or broke things at a party since I was an undergrad and I was drinking LaBatts at the time.

The GOP has spent so many hours on how to dismantle the Federal government and look for enemies beginning with Gingrich they forgot how the government works.
