Article from the State News about the injured falcon "Pickles." FWIW, Pickles was the youngest of the brood and the last to fledge - the falcon we called Snowflake.

Pickles the peregrine falcon brought to rehabilitation center for injuries

The article says they are not sure how he was injured - he was found on the ground near the stadium with a broken wing. Will likely be able to fly in a limited manner again, but not well enough to hunt.

The owls in the vid at Wildside are cool. Reminded of my mom...grew up in the Keweenaw and loved owls. Haven't seen or heard one around here in a long time.

Once or twice a year I’ll hear an eastern screech owl for a few days or a week when I’m out walking my dog at night, then it disappears and pops up later in a different location. Also use to see them on the bird feeder pole in the backyard of our former house as they looked for mice. Very cool birds, but surprisingly small.

You are correct, it will likely be the same mating pair unless something happened to one of them. Falcons do mate for life, but can form new pair bond if one dies.

If it is not the same mating pair it would likely be an entirely new set of falcons. Falcons do not reach sexual maturity until age two, so it will not be one of last years kids.

Sandhill cranes are back. Four of them flew past my house today

Use to see blue herons around here often. Construction made them tend away from an old large nesting site. Rarely see them now.

Every dog I’ve ever had going back to 1999 had their heads explode after seeing sandhill cranes. The birds nest at an EL location I wasn’t aware of until my dog found it. Thankfully, as quiet as the pup was, the cranes flew off before there was an incident. Cool to see them every year.

No birds yet.  Way cleaner than last time I saw it.  Wonder whom got assigned that task?  Also wonder what they used to clean it, so as to not leave any scent.  Doubt water alone could have cleaned up that mess.

Good to know it's broadcasting again. The 3-4 times I had checked in the last couple of weeks it had gone dark.

I bet water and a wire brush would do it.

Maybe. Would have to be a hand wire brush (no drill motor spinner) used going with the grain...for a long time lol!

Random observation: Can understand them repainting the exterior the same goofy blue, to make it recognizable. Wonder why they didn't paint it a shade or two closer to Spartan green initially?

Couple co-workers were talking birds today so I sent them the link to falcon cam. In doing so noticed a difference from last year...they added sound! It's a bit staticky now. Hope they get that fixed before the birds show up.

Yeah, I can't tell if it's static or just wind interfering with the microphone.

Looked at some pics from last season. Seeing a couple more wires now. Maybe a couple microphones/cameras added.

Find it disappointing the MSU falcon group has disabled comments on the cam feed.

Please make the microphones work both ways. I want to be able to suggest to the falcon mommy and daddy how to raise their chicks.

It was disabled last year too, peckerhead

Saw a bald eagle flying around over Old 27 just north of Centerline Road a little while ago. He or she was trying to fly west and not making any progress against the wind.
Oh, and if you decide to drive out and find it the Clinton County Sheriff is keeping a pretty good watch on that section of road
