It’s still 6° in EL. Overnight low -4°. This is all Bob’s fault.

I prepaid for a bunch of propane so I should be okay, but I am running a couple electric heaters too. Trying to keep the pipes from freezing in the crawl space under my house. There's a breeze down there and I've yet to figure out where it's coming from. Temperature gauge shows 36 degrees.
Had an appointment for a ct scan this morning. Damn near froze to death walking across the parking lot. I need to remember to not park at the far side when it's this frickin cold out.

Rode the bike downstairs, hopped in the shower.. went out expecting an ice skating rink in the driveway of my East Lansing estate.. and it was basically slush. Didn't seem slippery at all.
oh well - glad the children can stay home. School can be overrated.. I learned more from a three minute record, baby, than I ever learned in school.

Have an old Tahoe that would die every now and then. Would always jump it and get it going. But, battery was fine when tested. One time, I just jiggled the cables a few times and it started. The next time it happened, I was like maybe if I jiggle the wires again...or...tighten the connections...haven't had a problem since.

this time of year, I have one of my bikes downstairs, connected to a wind trainer. I walk down the stairs and ride the bike accordingly, then I walk back up the stairs.

Talk about lazy. Most people walk to their bathroom to take a shower.

This should probably be in the recommend something on Amazon under $50 bucks thread. I have been using this for awhile and I like it a lot.Nordic wrote:Truck battery was dead yesterday. I was able to solve the bad battery/drain question recently on the wife's Honda (1 year old bad battery). Also tests your alternator and shows what it is producing (fwiw, both too high and too low cause can problems). It has been my experience that under performing batteries can cause seemingly unrelated problems like sensor issues. For what the $150 a battery costs, I like to replace them when before they are truly dead. This lets me know when to do that.
I know I mentioned it in a previous thread when someone was looking at a a compact jump starter - just replace the battery. Batteries are consumables and it ain't getting any better.

It was noticeably higher than yesterday due to all the snow melting pretty fast. Continued to get higher thru the morning. Spilled over the far bank and created a couple very large ponds in the open field. Flooded the back lot of the Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealer again. They were hustling moving vehicles. Highest I've ever seen it.

They are closing 17 Mile between Van Dyke and Plumbrook Rd soon to replace the bridges. Coworker went through there this morning. Said the contractor left some of its excavating machines too close to the drain overnight and they were sitting deep in water.Floyd Robertson wrote:

correct - the most underrated weather stat is dew point, the most overrated is humidity.Zurn wrote:Dew point is the most underrated of weather stats.

as the dew point and humidity values get closer to each other, that's where things change for the worse. I took this screenshot back in January to hold onto.. a humidity percentage of 70% and a dew point of, say, 68° will be very soupy. Those sorts of days where you sweat walking to check the mail.
when the humidity is 70% and the dew point is -10°, not so much. You ain't gonna be sweatin' walking to the end of the driveway.

yeah, I live for winter trail running. Doing a trail half-marathon in a couple of weeks and the whole point of it was to do it in the dead of winter, almost as a 'survival' - at this rate, I'm gonna be wearing shorts.Floyd Robertson wrote:Peeking ahead and I see it's predicted to be 58 next Friday and it actually makes me kind of sad.
