I blame the internet.
Are those the same colleagues fascinated by Cheese Whiz and hot fudge fountains?

Re: 2024 Solar Eclipse
We saw something similar in Bowling Green, but it was much higher in the sky and smaller. It was cool though, it got dark for the 4 minutes that the sun was blocked by the moon, and it looked just like that.

It does rotate.
Why does one side always face the sun?
It doesn't.
One side always faces the earth. Â The rotation of the moon takes exactly one revolution of the moon around the earth (tidal synchrony). Â The "dark" side of the moon is illuminated half the time. Â When you see a half moon, the other illuminated half is half of what you call the "dark" side. Â When the moon is new, the "dark" side is fully illuminated you just can't see that. Â A "day" on the moon lasts two weeks. Also, the side not facing the earth is made of green cheese.

Re: 2024 Solar Eclipse
If I can just add to this great concise explanation by Rick, the use of the term "dark" side of the moon is meant in the same context as the Dark Ages, referring to to not having much information on it, rather than a lack of light. No person had ever laid on eyes on it until the 1960s, and if someone lands a craft there, it can't be communicated with directly (would need a relay satellite orbiting the moon, which I believe is exactly what China did after being the first to ever land a craft there a few years ago).Rick Saunders wrote:The Pantry wrote:
