with 'pro-life' republicans/libertarians refusing to do anything, we can can maybe keep a shred of hope in the local courts to lean into humanity and decency and, like you say, take a step in the direction of Michigan.

Have to wait and see on that one. In the Oxford shooting the shooter had been begging for mental health help from his parents.

Just had a conversation with my 12 year old daughter.  Fuck me.  Asked her about what to do.  She knows all the places to go in the classes and a blind corner.  Asked her about fighting back and she asked why, how do you dodge a bullet.  Told her it was a 14 year old,  she said he rage quit.

Holy shit. I’m really sorry. I can’t imagine the challenges of parenting pre-teens now, especially in the society we’ve set up for them. Im far from the school psychologist, but the fact that you’re having a conversation with her about this, is a good thing. Hanging in there.

We had warning with the Oxford shooter, too. But parents either don't care, or want to protect their precious snowflake, and school districts are too scared to act for fear of being sued. There are a lot of problems in America surrounding the nuclear family and the educational system. But it's far easier to blame guns.

I'd rather talk about it and be open than tip toe around it. After talking about it, then she tells me about a fight that broke out last week. The schools in Miami have police assigned to them. I more worry about Kyle, but his 'room' is a separate building from everything else, with only 2 doors that are locked the whole time. There are no windows or any other way in.

Sounds like prison. Our schools are prisons now. Complete with locked doors, regular lockdowns, and armed guards. And all too often the equivalent of prison riots.

Had a meeting for my kids preschool the other day, they talked about how the staff does lockdown drills but the kids won’t be doing that yet. Awesome, looking forward to this next 15 years or so.
