Made it almost an hour, but couldn't handle any more.  Vance went to the Tucker Carlson school of earnestness apparently and just spins the entire time.  Walz spins too but at least most of it is more in reality. Was hoping Walz personality would come through more but they are just too busy shitting on things to take a breath and make people like them.

My wife got up and said people were calling it a Vance win because he was much more polished. Sure, he's polished, but he's a polished turd. I had to laugh at the things chosen to focus on, instead of you know, the policy reality. I knew in a few minutes of watching that there would be no consensus on a clear winner. Walz was not at his best but he did enough to make sure the needle didn't move. Vance was Vance, spewing sentiment without the backing of reality. Their strategy is just so simple for me to ever take them seriously, which is basically to call Kamala Harris terrible in every issue and trump phenomenal and strong on everything.

I did like CBS's fact checks though.  The rules were no fact checks from the moderators and they didn't do them the normal way we have seen, what they did is essentially fact check in the form of follow up questions.  When Vance realized what was happening the grumpy look on his face made the debate worth the time.  That said, they were tough on Walz too, they pressed him twice specifically about how he once claimed to have seen the tiannamen square massacre or some such but that it didn't quite align with the timeline he was supposedly in China for, asked him to explain the discrepancy.  He danced around it with his experiences in China on the first answer and they wouldn't let him go, pressing him on a follow up.  He had to concede that he is sometimes a knucklehead and misspoke. Stupid to press him on that as it's inconsequential but none the less they went after him a bit and did the same gotcha routine with Vance on his past comments on trump positions

And it was great when they DID fact check Vance on calling the Haitians in Springfield illegals....and then Vance complained, "You guys aren't supposed to fact check". Lol, the dumbass doesn't realize that that makes him look worse as he's admitting he's lying.

That's a good point about how they used the questions to fact check. When they started the question about The Big Lie, they laid out that all the court cases that Trump lost, how every Dem and Rep governor certified the election....and then pointed out that not accepting the electors (which Vance vows that he would have done in Pence's position) is illegal and unconstitutional. It really put Vance in an awkward position trying to answer that. The best he could do was say that we should have had a national conversation about it (you mean like.....an election?).

I don't know if they broke their own rules of no fact checks or not because I didn't see the whole thing, but it was great how they used questions and lead in to questions to fact check. Smart loop hole.
