If he's declaring for the NFL draft.

I say he should go.

He can always come back to school if he wants to, tOSU offers that to all student athletes.

Take the cash now and banking it is never a bad bet.

IF he comes back to college he could:
Never start again.
Get hurt.
Not play as well.
Get in some sort of trouble.

Too much downside and very little upside from what he's done the past 3 games.

I thought someone said they were all coming back next year. Isn't Miller thinking of transferring? Would be kind of funny if Jones declares and Miller transfers, leaving only Barrett, who could be injured at any time.

He should go pro. Why come back and risk injury? Also, he will still be the #2 guy behind Barret.

Its tough to see any upside in coming back. Go pro young man.

Exactly. This could quickly go from a position of unprecedented strength to a potential weakness. Supposedly neither Miller nor Barrett will be healthy enough to participate in Spring drills.

Miller keeps bubbling up as transferring to Oregon which would be nearly as interesting as he or supposedly Hogan from Stanford transferring into scUM.

Apparently he's also 22, with 2 years of eligibility left. He would most likely be backup to a Freshman, or RS Frosh, which means he'd have to hope for another injury. He'd be going out on top, and has a huge body, 6'3" or so and 250, with a nice arm. His stock might not ever be higher, even if that means going in a later round. Not only that, but right now, he's healthy.

That's definitely a way to look at it.

I was looking at it from the point of view of someone in the position of possibly drafting him. I dunno how confident I would be, as the GM of an NFL franchise, in using one of my draft spots on someone who's played only 3 games of CFB ever, in a system that seemed to work no matter who they put in at QB.

Cardale Jones would be a great Steeler - reminds me a lot of Roethlisberger. Hope they take a flyer on him in the 4th round

There will be a little bit more to look at, but for sure only the 3 live games. There will always be a GM who has to take a chance on a QB. Half the league can't find the right QB, mainly because I think they bring in rookies and expect them to all be Peyton Manning. If he were available in the 4th or 5th rounds, some team who is looking for a backup or a QB to groom for the next few years would have to take a chance on him.

Good point... despite his inexperience he is fortunate by virtue of the position he plays. Supply and demand.

He played great in those 3 games, but no one ever had any film on him. Playing more will only reveal flaws.

Not to mention he was surrounded by talent (2 other QBs before him were Heisman hopefuls this year in that same offense). Ezekiel Elliott ran for 200+ yards in each of those games that Cardale won too.

Ironic that he's making the smart move here.

I saw one person saying that if he should declare that the smartest move for him would be to not throw at the combine or Pro day.  Tell teams to use those 3 games of film to judge him.   The point was that the more film they had on him the more they would use it to pick him apart so he had nothing to gain by allowing that.   Made some sense to me.

To his credit it's one of the toughest "should I stay or should I go?" calls I've seen in awhile.

I think he knows he's going to be a bad NFL qb, or at least suspects that he might not be peyton Manning.

He doesn't read defenses, he doesn't diagnose pressure very well and misses on a lot of throws. Analysts kept comparing him to ben roethlisberger, i saw him as more of a jamarcus Russell type guy.

Logan Thomas who came back and exposed himself was still a 4th round pick and made 530k. Basically, Cardale would have been at worst a 4th round pick and I have a little hunch higher then that if he shows out at the combine and during workouts.

There is no guarantee he is the starter next year or that he wont get injured or that he will be able to maintain a high level of play. Defenders are also going to hit him low. They simply wont try to hit him high and get ran over.

He pretty much had won the lottery and burnt his ticket. He would have ben a never has been unless Barrett got injured.

like you guys, I think it's in his best interest to go pro... I mean, after 3 starts, he's proven he's ready.. and he seems like a fine young man who really needs to support his family. I don't know that there is a QB out there that is more ready for the next level than him...

also, if we face their 4th string QB next year we have a better shot at winning.
