I doubt a spin off of possibly the best drama series ever will be better than the original.

Why does Mike from Breaking Bad work at a tollbooth?

Some might argue Frasier was better than Cheers, so it's possible. A spinoff typically has a great to work off of, and much better resources from the start because of said base.
Odenkirk is a great actor. If there's anyone from BB who could make a spinoff better than the original, it's him.

Re: Better Call Saul
Cool to see the flash forward of Saul working at Cinnabon. Kind of a depressing episode for 3/4 of it. I get it though, gotta show his motivation on why he ends up the way he does.
Really glad to see Tuco is back.

Re: Better Call Saul
I'd guess it's undercover, either in his role as a PI, or even working for Gus or some other criminal (it was outside a courthouse, after all). Â Or it could just be all he could get for a job at that point, since he left the police out East after some issues (I don't think they ever really gave much detail on that, did they)?The_Dude wrote:Why does Mike from Breaking Bad work at a tollbooth? Second show was solid. The negotiation with Tuco in the desert was classic.

Re: Better Call Saul
So far a pretty good show. After watching the first two episodes, I might just skip the rest of the season and watch it all over one weekend back to back. I hate watching shows with huge cliffhangers and having to wait a week.

My expectations aren't that high, but the show has been great so far. Vince Gilligan is obviously fully invested in doing Breaking Bad justice here.
And FWIW, people said the same thing when Godfather II was announced, and pretty much everyone acknowledges that it is at least equal to, if not better than the original movie. A high bar, but if you have the right people involved it can at least not embarrass itself.

Didn't realize this was a Breaking Bad spin off. I never really committed to Breaking Bad, although enjoyed the odd episode. I take it this stands alone pretty well, but with lots of Easter eggs for the fanboys?

It's Breaking Bad five years earlier.

Tonight's episode was superb. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a better single show I've ever watched. I might have to stop watching this on network TV and wait until it comes out on something where I don't have to watch goddamn commercials.
So good I watched it twice.

It's taken time to evolve the plot lines, but it's all starting to come together. Last night's show was great. The show is starting to pick up some momentum now.

Yep. The previous two episodes dragged on a bit. Monday's was top notch. They need to get Taco back in the mix.

Have a feeling it's not going to last. I think we're going to see Chuck lead Jimmy to the brink of a big win/payday and then something will happen. Be it Kim betraying them or something else. Jimmy is going to be hard on his luck until he has to transform himself and become Saul.

Re: Better Call Saul
Yeah, that's sort of the downside to the show. We know he doesn't win that case already. Unless he spent all of that money on that sweet strip mall office he ends up with. Of course, the interest is with how that happens, not necessarily what happens.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:

True, but we're also making a small leap of faith there. Gilligan has already proven that things are not always what they seem. I mean, I really thought Jimmy was on his way with the Kettleman's money. It's entirely possible that they DO win that case or get a huge settlement, and something happens which leaves Jimmy back at square 1. So while I definitely lean towards my premise playing out as it's somewhat obvious, I also don't think we can rule out another spectacular rise/fall situation. Either way, it's entertaining as hell. This is a really good show. I'm enjoying it more than I enjoyed any recent show in memory, at least in Season 1.
