That was in NC. North of Asheville. It was a fun course. I watched a guy eagle a 570yd par 5. Driver, 8 iron, putt. He crushed his drive, ended up about 190 from the green or so. I told him to use his 150 club, he stuck it about 6 ft from the hole. Both shots were blind shots.

A couple weeks ago I played at the second ugliest course I’ve ever been to. The first was comparable but it was covered in goose shit so it gets the nod.
There was no fairway, just rough, and by rough I mean the kind of grass that you find in a not particularly cared for backyard. Tee boxes were just some markers put in the otherwise rough ground. It was just a real shit hole.

Gonna get serious and buy some irons next season instead of using grandpa's old ones. I feel like I've gotten good enough to where this matters.
How the heck do I determine what's worth it? What wedges do I need? Any recommendations?

Try to see if anywhere has a club demo day. How do you hit the club's you have? You can buy off eBay a used set for about half the price of retail if you find something you like. Places down here usually have an area to test clubs. Ask your friends to hit their clubs at a driving range. Â Buy what suits you, I don't think you need to spend $1k on a set of clubs. If you can get fitted, I've heard that's the way to go.Tim Wakefield wrote:Gonna get serious and buy some irons next season instead of using grandpa's old ones. Was very pleased with my round. Hadn't played since last September. Shot 37-46. Driver went a little crazy on the back nine. Played Captains Club at Woodfield in Grand Blanc.

Typical Kingston, blames the club instead of taking responsibility for his own actions.

I had a bizarre experience playing 9 holes and some old guy asked me if I’d like to play. Told me I could play through or play with him. What the hell I thought let’s play I might learn something about golf from this old timer. One thing I noticed he would fluff up his lie before he’d take his shot. Cool that’s his business we aren’t playing for money and if he wants to fluff up his lie then go right for it. Well it got weird. Our ball was close to each others and he walked over to my ball. He knew it was my ball and fluffed up my lie. What dude fluffs another mans ball? I never said anything and I kind of regretted it.

Yes, you should’ve said something. You got your ball fluffed from a stranger. You should have said thank you.

This guy in front of me on Sunday was doing like 4-5 practice swings before every ball strike and when he did his actual swing it looked nothing like his practice swing. These slow people are ruining the game.

Just letting everyone know I'll probably play 3-5 times this week. Course I played today head no roll. Really messes with your yardage when you only get what you can fly.

It is a very nice course. I used to play it all the time about 10 years ago, but they have taken the price up so much, that I don't push my luck on getting invited there. Look up Ocean Reef, in Key Largo.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:looks like a sweet course

Our local shithole course is closing... the year after my kid gets addicted (of course). I'm not joining "the club" for my 3-4 rounds a year... the kid can drive 30 minutes away to the other little bergs by me for their shithole courses.

There's an old historic course in town that is having deals on club memberships. Me and my friend golfed there recently and we were wondering if we should join. It comes with unlimited golf, a locker and access to the club house (eye roll). My friend asked a great question while we were out there 'what kind of people would we be hanging out with if we joined?'. I feel like the social scene at these places sucks and not sure it's worth the money.Golf clubs need to figure out ways to make their memberships more appealing to people in the younger generations.

I think not need to pay another exorbitant fee for a cart pass would be a good start

I just find it kind of weird that having access to the club house is considered a perk to membership and access to their 'society events'. You know when you are at a wedding and the djay puts on Brown Eyed Girl and all the aunts and uncles and friends of the parents storm the dance floor? That's the type of crowd I picture hanging out at the club house. I feel like the hipper local establishments in my town are a better place to enjoy a pint than the golf course club house and I can get into those for free.

Anyone ever have golfers elbow? Similar to tennis except the inside of the arm? Lifting things hurts. Lifting a beer wrong can be painful. If feels like a permanent Charlie horse. Any ideas of how to fix it?

Re: The Golf Thread
Well my swing was basically broken otpt. Started toward the end of last year and continued last week when I went to the range last week. I had hoped that 6 months off and I’d forget whatever I was doing wrong. But I basically couldn’t get the ball in the air, or make it go in any particular direction. It wasn’t fun.
Watching me swing like 5 times and he knew that I was keeping my club face completely closed and pretty much not moving my wrists at all through my backswing. He pointed it out, told me what to do to fix it, and I immediately started hitting more like im used to. It’ll take a little bit more practice to get the muscle memory to do it like that back, but man it was fun to swing a golf club for the first time since like July

Yes and rest was the only thing that worked for me. Although a good brace, some sports cream and some opiates certainly are an option if you want to grind it out. ( which I did for months).
