....they don't rely on some corporation to work 40 hr weeks on first shift. That's the main thing. Not to say I'm a NYC fan by any means. Not my spot at all.

I'll agree with you there. Didn't seem to be much of a local vibe. However, you want a city to have some of it's own local culture that people can adopt upon arrival.

Wait a minute, you've been shitting on Michigan for years and you live in Charlotte, NC? I've spent time in Charlotte. The whole city is like a giant Wal-Mart. It is a dead end town with nothing to do. If you want to pay extra for living and still have that rural Mississippi feel (read: racist as shit), Charlotte is the city for you.

Detroit has been booming with new businesses and entrepreneurs the past few years. Its actually really exciting.

I personally know two good looking well educated females that moved back to MI after living in Atlanta and Chicago for about 3-4 years. Both are innovative with good jobs. I just met a couple the other day who moved to Detroit from Florida for jobs.

You brag about the South, yet are going to try and stereotype people from the Midwest as getting married and having kids before 30? People commit suicide if they aren't in a stale marriage by the time they are 25 in the South.

If you didn't care about the Midwest you wouldn't bash it every chance you can. There's a reason you do it--you are unhappy with your current lot in life and are trying to feel better by tearing others down. Common antic.

I was born and raised in the Northeast, but I have to say, based on going to school in the Midwest and having lots of friends that are still there...I think the attitude in the Midwest is a hell of a lot better than what you'll see on the West Coast or the South.

Sure, I guess it's not as "innovative," but I think the more genuine and down-to-earth attitude you see in the Midwest make it a much more desirable place to live than some of these "innovative" places.

Also, what the hell is "innovative" supposed to mean in this argument anyways? I feel like people who use the term "innovative" and "worldly" in their arguments about what makes where they live better, are just using it to make themselves sound better because they're insecure about something and are grasping for a way to come off as superior so they can feel better about themselves.

I spend a ton of time in Detroit and know better than you about its economy. It is getting better, but in no way is it a desirable place to live for people who have lived elsewhere. And I've never lived in the South, and don't believe I've ever sung its praises. Still though, it does have good weather and cheap cost of living and a very business-friendly atmosphere, and those alone make it better than the Midwest.

The Midwest is a desirable place to live for a 40-something $70k per year middle manager with kids in elementary school who pretty much knows how the rest of his life will play out.

It's not a desirable place for a 22-35 year old guy with an innovative spirit looking for people to support him in turning great ideas into million dollar ideas. The 22-35 year old will be shouted down and told that his best course of action is to beg for one of these soul crushing $60k per year jobs and be thankful one of these Midwest females who continue to get uglier and fatter by the day is willing to date him and further prevent him from reaching his potential.
