Anyone get this Amber Alert on their phone?

Something about Bancroft MI with a Ford F-250?

It came through at like 8AM this morning and it the loudest and most annoying noise I've ever heard my phone make. Really damn obnoxious, and luckily I made sure to disable all emergency alerts. I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no reason to wake me up at 8AM on a Saturday because some white trash guy in Flint decided to kidnap his daughter.

If it were like a normal text, I wouldn't have even turned the notifications off. This was an air raid siren combined with the loudest vibration setting for about 10 seconds sent to everyone with a cell phone in Michigan at 8AM on a Saturday. Absolutely not cool.

I was going to respond with "you know what else is not cool? The idea of some kid tied up and gagged on the floor of a pickup with some giant hairy creep driving west.". But then I realized you don't actually believe what you post so I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Are you sure your alert went off at 8AM? Thought it was 4:30AM.

Looks like the girl was found safely with her father. She probably has a mother who does a lot of meth and started going crazy. No reason to wake everyone in the state up.

Ditto. It freaked me out because it came with about 2:30 to go in the basketball game and my first thought was that it was one of emergency system tests but nothing was showing up to that effect on the TV screen.

I'm willing to bet you take the time and effort to erase everything traceable from your phone after surfing porn. Just take a few more seconds and opt out of the emergency notifications setting. That way some kid can get murdered and your guy on guy moments won't be interrupted.

I signed up through Clinton County a while ago. First alert I've received since I did sign up. I think they send other alerts as well, nuclear war, asteroid smashing into the earth, that kind of stuff.

I got it too. I never heard anything though. My phone didn't make a noise loud enough to wake me. I didn't know it was even there until I picked up my phone a few minutes ago. I don't see the alert as an imposition.

For better or worse, I think a lot of people in Michigan learned how to turn off their emergency notifications today.

There has been a lot of debate about the effectiveness of these sorts of intrusions. You better be damn sure it's a serious situation where millions of people HAVE to be notified if you're going to do something like this at 5:30am. Because you probably lose 50% of your audience for the next time.
