I saw that Trek had a major recall.. that's wild. One of the best bike companies in the world and definitely the premium bike company in the States.

Fortunately, I don't have a Trek - I used to, though. I have two Specialized, an old skool Bianchi (which is sweet), a Raleigh.

I do appreciate your concern and that you're advocating for someone taking my bike.. there certainly are people (mainly at the other, lesser board - full of "Spartans") who might proclaim "quick - someone get Bob a Trek"!!

luckily I've never had a major crash.. I've gone down on the single-track trails a few times.. never anything on the road - mainly rednecks who fly past about 3 feet away at 60 mph.

I did have a moment once in North Carolina where I was descending fairly fast (this was when I was young and dumb.. as opposed to being old and stupid) where I hit a wet patch on the road and my back tire fishtailed a little. I remember it literally taking my breath.

I'm very disappointed that you don't have a Schwinn from back when they were made in the USA

I have one bike. A Cannondale from 1997. Rides great to this day. I'm not sure I put Trek ahead based on my limited experience on Trek bikes.

Edit: Maybe not as American as I thought...

I still have a 1999 Schwinn Moab 3 that I just keep around. Still a great bike, but I ride my specialized mostly. I keep hearing that it's a collector's item because it was from just before they were bought by Dorel. I never looked into it though.

I was shopping around a year ago or so for a new mountain bike and I've always wanted a Cannondale. When I was really heavy into cycling years ago - and then triathlons - Cannondale was the gold standard, at least with some guys I was riding with.

I ended up going with a Specialized.

I love bikes.. I love the simplicity of them - even the more high-end bikes with expensive components - are still very simple machines. I've got a handful of old frames, components, etc in my basement - for no good reason, really - I just don't want to get rid of them. I watch American Pickers some in hopes that they'll do entire episode on bike.. Someone take Bob's bike! 502811600

Have a '95 Crisscross.  Looks like this but without fenders.  Very distinctive handlebars.

Except most Trek bikes are made in China now...though their headquarters are still here in WI.

Me and my sky blue Varsity would like you to go fuck yourself. Btw, I upgraded to the foam grips on the entire handle bar, so I had plenty of swag.

3x? Your memory is cloudy. Center-pull brakes alone were worth the maybe $60-80 upgrade.

Had a sweet dark metallic copper Continental. It looked even better after mangling the fork in a head-on crash on the Tundra (long story). The Schwinn shop on GR only had a chrome replacement fork available.
