From the Trieu article on Hill today is some 2017 notes. My guess is that MSU is relying on poster NigelUno for scouting reports. Hopefully Nigel can share some info in the next newsletter.

Busy week for 2017 quarterbacks

Michigan State is recruiting the state of Georgia hard in the 2017 class, particularly at the quarterback position, where the Spartans have offers out to three of the state's best at the position.

Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern's Bailey Hockman decommitted from Georgia this week and immediately heard from the Spartan staff. With Chase Brice committing to Clemson several days later, the Spartans are left with Hockman and Greater Atlanta Christian's Davis Mills atop their board.

Hockman was also offered by Michigan this week. He has not been north to visit either school, but an offseason trip up to the Great Lakes State remains a possibility.

I've seen things that make me think this has shades of Anthony Zettel. Remember that saga? I think the kid likes MSU, the parents love scUM so the kid goes somewhere else so no one "wins".

Recruiting: Spartans looking at massive local prospect

One of the largest prospects in the nation for the class of 2017 is Robert Hudson of Walled Lake Western.

Checking in at 6-foot-8 and 295 pounds, Hudson has college coaches very intrigued with his upside. Several schools have already offered him a scholarship and others are in frequent contact.

"Currently I have offers from UMass, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan," he said. "The other schools that have been keeping in contact with me so far have been Michigan State and Wisconsin. I've also have had Penn State come to my school and get all of my information."

A Michigan State coach stopped into Walled Lake Western shortly after the Spartans won the Big Ten championship against Iowa.

Sadly Corley to OSU, ND or elsewhere has looked like a probability for more than a month. The Corley recruitment is looking more like Zetter to PSU 5-6 years ago. Parents loved umaa and it was going to be anywhere but MSU if it wasn't playing in aa.

Goes a bit deeper too. Meyer is targeting more high level players from Michigan to keep them from signing with MSU.

Antjuan Simmons, a four-star LB from Ann Arbor, includes Ohio State -- and not Michigan -- in top 11

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State is in the midst of a pretty hectic recruiting day as it puts the finishing touches on its 2016 recruiting class, but it also got some good news for 2017.

That's because four-star linebacker Antjuan Simmons of Ann Arbor (Mich.) Pioneer released a top 11, and Ohio State made the cut.

Though Michigan offered the 6-foot-1, 205-pound prospect in November, the Wolverines didn't make Simmons' first list.

Joining Ohio State on the 6-foot-1, 205-pound prospect's list are Michigan State, Tennessee, LSU, Syracuse, UCLA, Miami (Ohio), Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame, Penn State and Texas A&M.

"My coach said that Tennessee is really calling about me a lot," he explained. "I'm definitely interested in Tennessee, and I also like Kentucky and Michigan State a lot. Tennessee has not offered yet, while the other two have."
