Hip injury - advice needed
I was playing soccer today and fucked up my hip really bad. Tried kicking the ball across my body and instantly felt shooting pain. This was a couple hours ago and it still hurts just as bad. Walking/moving at all is excruciating and I can't lift my leg up when I'm sitting.
Didnt go to the doctor because I'm poor. Does anyone have an idea what the diagnosis might be/what i should do about it ?

Diagnosis: you fucked something up. Probably a strain

Flying home a week from Sunday.
Hate to see it end but this next week is gonna be insane. Unless I'm permanently crippled, of course. This shit hurts so bad

Shit, man, that's bad. No way you survive the flight home. That bad boy is gonna stiffen up and you won't be able to get up.
Yep. You gone. In a third-world country with no viable medical care. Sorry, man. Good to have known you.

Get some cocaine, the good stuff, since you're down in South America where it's easily accessible, and you'll be feeling better than new.

Disappointed in this thread, the title implied you had suffered a hip injury.ĀTim Wakefield wrote:I was playing soccer today and fucked up my hip really bad. Turns out you suffered an old man's injury trying to play a hipster sport.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/338284-stretches-for-a-tight-psoas/#page=2Lying Down Stretch
Stretching your psoas muscle lying down can be done on the floor, but it works best on the edge of a training table or bed. Lie on your back toward the lower end of a table so that your buttocks is at the edge. Allow one leg to hang off the edge as you grab the other knee with both hands. Pull your knee toward your chest as far as you can and hold this for 15 seconds. Repeat the stretch four times as long as you feel no pain.

This is the opposite of the last one, sort of, but the more you spread your legs the more you'll feel the hips. Don't start spread out though if you try it

Get a hammer and a nail. Hammer the nail into your hand. The pain in your hip won't seem as bad in comparison.

I think the bowling ball on the foot is better. I'd rather have the use of both hands and walk with a limp for awhile.

And I'm fully planning on going to the bar tomorrow no matter how bad it hurts. An injured, tall white dude should fare pretty well, no?

You bet. Then it'll turn out she has a friend, who knocks you out, and robs your boots, and you'll be on the street again. This time, writhing in agony and barefoot.
Sounds like a good time.

Can't find my link to this one but...
Lay flat on the floor with your left foot blocked against a door frame/wall/some object that won't allow your foot to rotate away from your body. Place something under your right leg (chair usually works) so that your knee is lifted and flexed about 90 degrees. Just lay there for at least 5 minutes, then switch sides. Should feel the small of your back relax and begin to lay flat/touch the ground

1. Isn't there cheap health care everywhere else other than the US for the uninsured? Actually, since you are in college you are still under your parent's plan. Get to the doctor, idiot.
2.

Let it rest for 4-6 weeks. i.e. wait until you get home. Then before you do anything, stretch like crazy. If it still is bothering you at that point see a Doc for xrays/MRI.Ā
As you get older you have to stretch and move into shit gradually. I've learned this lesson the hard way.

I'm certainly not the pope.. because I have a problem with clergy child molestation..
however, it sounds as though you may have experienced some soft tissue trauma. If it were me, I'd probably opt for a regimen of ice, a consistent anti-inflammatory treatment, light stretching, and gentle range of motion activities.

Disclaimer for those calling me a pussy: I had ridden horses the day before so I think that played a big part in my hip being tighter than usual. Also I'm not yet old enough to stretch before playing sports
Update: after a weekend of going out in MontaƱita (look it up, it's wild), my hip is feeling much better. Not sure how that works but I'll take it. Not using crutches anymore and I'd say it feels 60-70%
