The system and people failed Davis — from Chad Ford’s first mock draft for ESPN last winter and every mock draft that followed, to the NBA execs and agents who perpetuated the myth of Davis as a lottery pick and the folks in Davis’ corner who believed it and advised him that he was ready.
Davis is a 19-year-old kid who if left completely to himself to decide his future would likely be back at Michigan State — and a lottery pick next year. For real this time. He’s a good kid, who in his hour of embarrassment and disappointment, stopped on his way off the arena floor to sign autographs for kids yelling his name. Most of the draft picks on hand — all of them presumably in a better mood than Davis — just walked on by as they were escorted to media obligations.

It wasn't too bad d wags. Valentine went earlier than I expected and can help the Bulls right away. If Deyonta is a NBA caliber player - he will prove it and perform. Doesn't really matter where he got drafted.

That's true, although I think part of that article also talks about what teams are allowed to do with Europeans. They can basically draft them, hold their position, not pay them immediately and leave them in Europe so they develop. Davis will have to develop on his own now. I read an article, probably this one, and Izzo was trying to call Z Bo, to see if he will take Davis under his wings, cuz he's on his own now.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:DWags wrote:

I'd like to get Timbo's opinion on what he thinks about our fine scholar-athletes and their draft status...
might I suggest a "Turkey Sandwich with Timbo" podcast??

I just got the sense that Davis might have been pushed into this. Being a good person he does it. Then, when they leave the floor, he stops and signs.
Denzel is fine and has a great support system. Best to Davis, we'll all be pulling for him.

I'd be happy to finance Timbo's sandwich - I have some cans and bottles I can take back to Meijer..Turtleneck wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:is Timbo invited??

the hassle of taking back cans and bottles is worth Timbo's keen insight.

Couch: Spurs make Bryn Forbes a priority; now he has to make shots
I guess I missed the part where Forbes signed with the Spurs. Guaranteed money for an undrafted guy is the NBA is kind of rare, right?

Bryn Forbes has only briefly spoken to San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich since signing with the team.
Pop’s advice to his undrafted rookie entering NBA summer league play: “He just told me to shoot it,” Forbes said Thursday.
There is no ambiguity as why NBA teams like Forbes or why the Spurs gave the former Michigan State and Lansing Sexton standout a guaranteed contract to choose them.

Deyonta Davis has agreed upon a fully guaranteed three-year, $4 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Davis' deal is the richest ever for an American-born second round pick. The deal allows Memphis to retain his Bird rights and eliminate the Arena provision, leaving him with no restrictions on how much he can earn on a second deal.
Davis’ deal exceeds the guaranteed slotted salary of the 16th pick in the draft.
Davis was the 31st overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

You don't get it. First round pick is everything. Guaranteed roster spot and money.
Now he will be in the D league making scraps and having to fight against everyone else to get noticed and called up.
Life changer. Kid went into tonight thinking he'd leave a multimillionaire and instead will be making next to nothing and no guarantees.

DD has almost no offensive game to speak of. He'd be wise to seek the help of Ben Wallace and commit himself to modeling his game on Wallace's.

I'm not really sure what the difference is between the last Forbes signing announcement and this one today.
SPURS SIGN BRYN FORBES
Maybe nba.com is just catching up. Maybe I'm missing something. Today is July 14, 2016, right?

I'm guessing the first signing was just for the summer team. This one most likely ensures he will come to camp with them in the fall, and would also most likely be a 2 way deal (NBA minimum if he makes the roster...something else if he gets sent to their D League team).
