Never had it. Elaborate.
Edit: I meant elaborate as in share more details, not elaborate as in, wow, that's a pretty elaborate bottle of bourbon.

I like Woodford too. If you're ever in Vegas the Venetian Bourbon Room has a bottle made just for them that is delicious.

Woodford is really smooth, but it lacks character to me. Then again, I like a good rye too.

Get your point. I don't like Crown Royal because it's too smooth. Same with Hendrick's gin.SeeRockCity wrote:Snake Plissken wrote:The PanTree wrote:Woodford Reserve is just a few bucks more than Maker's, and much better

Try Maker's 46. It has no oak taste...too vanilla (literally) for me. I like to know I'm drinking bourbon.

For some reason, I have accumulated some whisky in the pantry (which I don't really drink). Which of these should I drink and which should I use to clean out a clogged drain?

Well you have a Canadian whiskey, a single malt scotch and a scotch. Whiskey and coke with the CC, Glenlivet on the rocks and give the Dewars away (or bring it to a tailgate...that's how I get rid of booze I don't want)

Dueling tailgates? You going to bounce back and forth? That might be awkward. Especially if a scuffle breaks out.

I have been working on some Noahs Mill and have been enjoying that a lot. Word on the street is some Elmer T Lee is coming in to my store in two weeks. Pretty excited to try that.

Cherry, sugar, bitters and crush it down. Add bourbon. Stir. Add ice. Stir. If I gave an orange handy I do a sliver of skin including the white part. Otherwise bottoms up.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
What's a new Bourbon to you?
I recently picked up Bowman Brothers and John Bowman. Bowman Brothers to me is pretty similar to Elmer T Lee, but $4 cheaper. They're owned by Sazarac (who owns Buffalo Trace) and they get juice from BT. Same mash as Elmer T Lee. They then distill it a third time and age it in VA.
Interesting stuff.

If I had to pick one, I think Bulleit would end up as my favorite bourbon.

Van Winkle Special Reserve for $55? Is this stuff worth buying? Not a big bourbon drinker, but heard of some of these and its being offered to me by a local liquor store.

I agree. Woodford is the current go to at our house. tWife prefers it to Makers, but it gets lost if you have one over ice.

I started dabbling in bourbon about a year ago and am hooked. Buffalo Trace is my go to, love the spicy flavor and it's not as expensive as some of the others. Eagle Rare is also good, but basically the same shit. I also like Elijah Craig and even Evan Williams. Yeah I know EW is cheap as shit, but it has flavor. I'll hit the Makers when I'm out as the bar. The wheated stuff is growing on me. Russel Revere and WT are alright. I didn't like Woodford Reserve, someone nailed it earlier, it seemed kinda bland. I don't like Bulliet either, especially the Rye. I've been staying away from the Ryes. But I'll give that another go at some point as it has been a while.
Anyway, I'm slowly weening in another buddy and he's having a b-day party/BBQ Saturday so selfishly I went bourbon shopping for a gift. I was looking for something I haven't tired yet and on the higher end. My local bottle shop had a Basil Haydens, a Mitcher's small batch bourbon and a Mitcher's small batch american whiskey. The proprietor of this establishment unequivocally recommended the Mitcher's small batch american whiskey.
I didn't realize it wasn't a straight bourbon till I got home. I'm not sure if it is because they use old bourbon barrels or the mashbill doesn't meet the corn requirement? Anyway, to you bourbon aficionados... did I make a good choice or did I just buy a bottle of SoCo?

I love bourbon but it puts me to sleep.
My 4 year old looked at my computer when I had an Albert Potato post on the screen. He looked at your avatar and asked me "Dad, does that guy have any arms or hands?" I said I don't know, I don't think he does. He wanted to know why he doesn't have any arms or hands. What say you, Albert Potato?

I'm not that artistic and pillaged the general body from 247. Blame 247 for the lack of arms.

I just got a kick out of the fact that out of all of the potentially weird stuff he's probably seen over my shoulder on the laptop over the years, he chose to fixate on your avatar and its lack of arms and hands. Pretty random.

Scotch & Bourbon are like two powerful locomotives railing down perpendicular tracks. You get on one, you stay on that one for awhile, and man does it do you right, and you can't go back to the other track, because you're on a powerful fucking ride. And whichever the ride you're on, they are both winners. And I love Scotch.
Woodford to me has always blown Makers Mark out of the water.
Buffalo Trace, can;t beat it for the price. And I saw a poster saying Eagle Rare is basically the same thing- wrong. Eagle Rare is the next step up. And of course Poppy Van Winkle is the Holy Grail.
I am actually sipping on some Lexington Bourbon, got it at a crazy price, cannot beat the taste for the value.

The Buffalo Trace to Eagle Rare comparison was me... they are from the same concoction, but yes... ER is the next step up.
