can you hear the clippity-clop of horses from the windswept veranda of the Leota Mall??Jake from State Farm wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:
I had to re-read this... I thought you were referring to the lovely town in Switzerland (Lucerne). If you haven't been, you should consider going.
no worries, though - I've never been to the sleepy hamlet of the Luzerne near Mio, but I'm sure it's quite comparable.
You haven't lived if you've never visited the Leota Mall.

Public invited to tour Mio Dam Aug. 27
This photograph shows the Mio Dam in the year it went into operation, 1916. The powerhouse has yet to be constructed. The back of the photograph reads, “Since river has been (illegible) thru lower house notice water boiling in front of draft tube.”

MIO — Embodying the perfect blend of nature and continued human ingenuity, the Mio Hydroelectric Plant has stood tall above the Au Sable River for the past century, and Consumers Energy is inviting the public to celebrate 100 years of its service with free tours of the historic facility Aug. 27.
Fifteen-minute tours are slated to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I bet it's just like touring the Hoover Dam. The government probably keeps Transformers under the Mio Dam, too.

They might, it sounds like an interesting tour to me - there aren't too many places in Michigan that you can tour a working dam.
I've toured Hoover and Bonneville but it'll be nice to see my local dam.

Do you get some Amish baked goods at the end of the tour? Or maybe a rocking chair?

I don't buy baked goods from the Amish - ever since Yoder's closed I've not been impressed by their offerings. I do buy produce
from them though, I got some tomatoes today that are incredibly tasty.

Ride to Provide returns Aug. 13
MIO — The third annual Lydia’s Gate Ride to Provide is scheduled to roar through town Aug. 13, and Director Sarah Belanger said the hope is to raise $10,000 for the shelter this year.
Registration begins at Lydia’s Gate at 8:30 a.m., with the bikers, who will have the chance to enjoy coffee and doughnuts, departing at 9:30 a.m. The four-hour ride will end at the Mio United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m.
“We’re hoping that we can get at least 100 people to show up,” Belanger said, noting there is no cost to register but donations are welcome. “We’re asking riders to bring pledges with them. So if they get $20 from their uncle or whomever, bring it with them.”

Re: Mio and area Doings
Mio, MI - Inspired by the performance of the US Olympic Team in Rio De Janeiro, local Mio resident Jimmy Joe "Jim Bob" Winkleprintz has decided to create the Greater Mio Swim Team and Water Survival Club. The club, Winkleprintz stated, is designed for anyone in Mio over the age of 75 who might be interested in swimming, be it competitive or social. When interviewed at the Mio Home for the Aged, Jim Bob, 83, stated that the club will meet once per month at 3:30 am at the Mio Community Center and make the drive to the nearest pool 90 minutes away. He stated that interested people should bring their swim suit, a change of clothes, a towel and their dental records in case they die on the way to the pool and need to be identified by local authorities.

How was your dinner there? They try hard but I've had some real ups and downs with their food. Our family cabin in the 60s-80s was about a mile behind the Sky Ranch on the Big Creek. I'm about 4-5 miles from there now. Hope you had fun while in the area.
Dinner was good. Friday fish special. Pretty tasty. Good selection of draft beer, too. Always nice to be able to get two hearted in a mug.

Sorry to inform you this is sold out. My daughter went to register this morning and had her heart broken.
She may need to start reading this thread to stay abreast of the social scene in the Mio area.

Well if you weren't posting like your family is in the other room watching TV having "family time" while you're off by yourself in the dark posting on an internet message board you would have been able to inform her well in advance of the fabulous dam event happening in Mio.

Finally tearing down the old court house today after the fire a couple months ago. Live video feed on the Facebooks. I'm going to stop by in a few to pay my respects on my way to Amish country to obtain some garden goodies.

Sure, for the record I did not ban you and have done so only once in over 3 years(you made some homophobic comments and I think I banned you a week.). Previously March 2013 was your last ban from me. So can you drop the Martin hates my guts woe is me bullshit?

Who is left over there for saggy balls to pick a fight with? He's like our drunk uncle here. Looks for a fight when he's on the verge of passing out, nobody takes him seriously, we just find him a nice spot to lay down.

My analogies are like fresh potato chips and bread. When they're stale the hard one gets soft and the soft one gets hard.
But that might be my penis too.
