Copa America/European championships. Soccer stuff.
Does anyone want to talk about soccer with me?
Well. If you do, the tournament just started. And it's in the US. We can talk about it here.

Re: Copa America/European championships. Soccer stuff.
The real Copa America was last year.
This is a watered down money-grab, orchestrated by people that are now, or soon will be, indicted on corruption charges. Most of the best players at the tournament don't want to be there, as they know what it is, haven't had more than a couple of weeks off in 3 or 4 years (3 years for the South Americans that play in Europe, 4 years for the CONCACAF players, the latter of which will be playing the next 3 summers, as well).
Having said that, it's still the first major soccer tournament in the US since the World Cup in 94, and it beats the living hell out of the Gold Cup. It's great for the fans in this country, and I'll still be watching every game that I can.
The US sucked ass yesterday, and they kept talking about the horrible record of teams that lose their first game advancing to the group stages. The toughest game is out of the way. The US are more than capable of winning the next two and advancing. But they shit the bed last summer, so they're also more than capable of losing the next two.

They did keep talking about that horrible record thing, but that such a garbage stat. Like last week when they kept talking about how only 9 out of 150 teams (or whatever it was) have come back from a 3-1 series deficit to win in the NBA. Yeah, fine, but how many of those teams were 8 seeds getting blown out by 1s or something similar? What I mean is, is the fact that Cameroon lost to Germany in their first game then didn't advance relevant? Would they have advanced if they played Germany in the third game instead? Probably not.

Re: Copa America/European championships. Soccer stuff.
I agree. Probably at least half that lose their first game would never get out of the group regardless. And in the 2010 World Cup, Spain lost their first game and won the whole the damn thing. I mean, there is something to be said about confidence being helped or hurt, but it was always more likely than not that the US's fate would be determined by the Costa Rica and Paraguay games.Travis of the Cosmos wrote:They did keep talking about that horrible record thing, but that such a garbage stat. With that said, a tie here between those two teams would be helpful.

I've never once fallen asleep during a baseball game. That's because baseball is a better sport and tons more exciting. That's just science.

That's because you don't understand the nuances of baseball. Now, kindly shut your pie hole as I'm about to grab a nap, too.

22 days Travis. I think the kickball final is the 26th.
I was talking about today, but I guess you already mentioned there are more games to play.
