Yeah that is a bitter pill to swallow too. JV goes to the team that wins the WS after failing to win it here, and the Tigers still pay $10 million/year of his salary. Grrrrrrrr
It really is. Frustrating that they couldn’t open up the checkbook one more time for some solid relief pitching back when it mattered.
Yep. Mr. I would never have let this happen.

Dodgers should have started Kershaw. He came in and threw 4 innings, why not give him the start, let him pitch the first 4, with an excellent pen and lots of starters arms available to finish it out?

Re: tWorld Series thread
First off, congratulations to Verlander and the Astros.
I actually lived in Houston for a while, but always maintained allegiance to the Tigers. Like many Tiger fans - I adopted the Astros as my second favorite team after the Verlander trade and faced with the reality that the Tigers are going to suck for awhile.
Even completely sober the revenue discrepancy in MLB does bother me. The NYY have yearly revenue of 526 million and the Dodgers 462 million (Forbes). Mid market teams - the Astros and Tigers have less than 300 million in revenue. At the bottom end of the scale, some teams have just over 200 million in revenue.
Yes, teams lower on the revenue scale can make a run at the title but they are required to sell their soul to do so.
We don’t have to look any farther than the Tigers. Mr. Ilitch did all he could to bring a championship to Detroit. The Tigers are the only team to be hit with the MLB payroll tax who are outside of the top revenue teams. The Tigers spent more than they could afford on salaries and that comes at a cost. The Tigers simply could not afford to spend the required resources on coaching, scouting and technology and their farm system. They will also have their hands tied in the near term due to some of those salaries.
The Yankees and Dodgers not only have the highest payroll but also can afford a great farm system, great coaches and a top scouting staff. Other teams have to pick and choose.
Personally, I will continue to hate on the huge market teams and dream that Verlander does something like this every time he thinks of the Yankees and the Dodgers:

Yep, that is correct but who's to say that the relief pitcher they put in after him doesn't blow it. One baseball writer put it well and I forget who said it but one of the biggest fallacies of the fans is they assume the other plan would have worked out. It's possible Kershaw would have won it for them but we will never know.
Also, I think they should have stuck with Hill longer in both games. I think their odds of winning game 2 greatly improve if they stick with him. He looked very strong when they gave him the hook, and probably would have reduced the need to rely on Jansen to get 6 outs.
That being said there's so much shit we can second guess.
