I personally thought it was a cheap call on the penalty kick given to us vs Spain, but they looked at replay and let it stand. That was a hell of a match.

Spain really seemed to control the ball much of the first 25 minutes of the second half. We had a few breakaway shots but didn’t look like the better team. We had a shot on goal and the Spanish player may have kicked our player in the lower shin while they both were going for the ball in the box. The official on the field called it a penalty. Replays did not show it conclusively and so we got the PK. Made it. Won 2-1. Pretty exciting.

The next game is for all the marbles though (until the one after that.) France and the US were always the two favorites with a collision course set in the quarterfinal which is kind of unfortunate but also the nature of a randomish draw. That said the winner won’t grt a cupcake in (likely) England.

I've been watching quite a bit of the World Cup - Spain played quite well. Seems like other than the US, Sweden might be the next best team. The US women will have their hands full against the host country on Friday, though.

I think he’s referring to the fact that one of the players merely stands during the national anthem and doesn’t sing or put here hand on her heart. Which she openly says is an act of protest mind you. But that’s what’s upsetting people’s precious fee fees at the moment.
