The U-M athletic department has asked the university’s Board of Regents to approve fireworks shows after the Wolverines’ football games against Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 13 and Penn State on Oct. 11 to “further enhance the fan experience for these important games.”

This weekend I saw something I have never seen. An advertisement for umaa football tickets that aired during the Tigers broadcast. I cannot recall umaa ever having to advertise for football tickets on TV just 6 weeks before the season.

What a hype - fireworks shouldn't be needed to draw a crowd and therein lies the rub.

Student season ticket sales this year - 12,000
Student season ticket sales two years ago - 21,000

I couldn't find any figures for non-student, but I wonder if they are going briskly?

It's funny that they're resorting to this, but I also kinda wish we had fireworks. Always liked the weekend Tigers games with fireworks after. Just a nice way to wind down after a win (or loss in scUM's case).

I actually do like me some t-shirt cannons. And the ones that shoot hot dogs.

Another "second fiddle" team I know of loves the fireworks...the White Sox. Doesn't work for them either.
