So I don't follow recruiting but did we sell our soul to the 'devil'? Sure he may have got us a Rosebowl and a Playoff game but when you sell your soul there's 'hell to pay'. If you ask me it was worth it just for those wins over scUM and OSU.

I mean, yes, after the playoff loss to Bama, hiring Blackwell was Coach D's way of trying to capitalize on our momentum and catapult our recruiting to the next level. It started with the 2016 class and seemed to be working. Obviously a huge miscalculation, as they discarded their priority on character with a guy who, in hindsight, lacked character himself leading the recruiting efforts.

I don't think we sold our soul to the devil. That's some UM type talk, like our success wasnt earned. We got that success the right way.

It's when we lost our way, and went away from the things that got us the success (with the hiring of Blackwell, 2016 dickhead-heavy class, etc.) that things started to slide.

If you want to look at it in a metaphysical or biblical sense, I'd say the fall came from greed and, perhaps most ironically of all, pride.

Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head here, somewhat of a perfect storm as well since there wasn't strong senior leadership for those 16' kids. Gone was Jack Allen, Darien Harris, Shilique Calhoun, Joel Heath, as well as some other strong leaders

I thought I saw something recently that indicated the $52k came from calculating the amount of work that had to be done specifically relative to the parts of the lawsuit the magistrate deemed frivolous (my word), including depositions she thought were fishing expeditions she didn’t consider germane to the federal case.
