Byes are only okay if it starts the week after the conference championship. Any more and you’re doing those top 4 teams a disservice as they will will not have had a game in 3+ weeks and will be stale going into a game against a great team that is more in practice.

Since they won’t start the week after the conference championship, I disapprove, but not for any of your reasons so I decline to vote.

They shouldn’t be involved at all so I don’t care

If the The powers want to expand then do it so every team has to play every weekend. Byes are for the NFL.

I don't know what this blatant cash grab is really trying to prove?  Are they saying someone outside the top 4 could've won it one of those years?

It’s the NCAA once again bowing to Jeem Harfuck’s wishes. He proposed this a couple of years ago because he felt cheated out of an appearance in the CFP. The weird one got his way with the transfer portal, and now this seems to be going his way, too.

Using CFP rankings last year to seed teams (on campus first round):


9 Georgia @ 8 Cincy.  Winner gets 1 Alabama.
12 Oregon (ranked 25 but Pac 12 Champ) @ 5 Texas A&M.  Winner gets 4 ND.

11 Indiana @ 6 OU.  Winner gets 3 OSU.
10 Iowa St. @ 7 Florida.  Winner gets 2 Clemson.  

There would have been some fudging going on (so as not to have 4 SEC teams, and maybe to mandate you have to be a conference champ to get a bye).  Coastal Carolina most likely would have taken Georgia's spot.  

On campus games would be fun.

Using 6 Conference champs (and 8 teams), 17th ranked Memphis would have been the 8 seed in 2019.

So, last year (using the set up they're going to use) 4 SEC teams, 2 G5 teams and 0 Pac 12 teams.

Why would the Pac 12 sign up for this?

Last year was obviously a little screwy because of Covid, but you're not going to see 4 SEC teams, 2 G5 teams, and 0 Pac 12 teams.

Like they don't monkey with the rankings in the current system?  Much prefer the proposal to the current setup because it opens things up a bit.  Only bummer is even if it's  accepted it won't take effect until 2023.  I'd like to see it this fall.

As we all know, the rankings as is are perfect and unimpeachable and any such monkeying would take all integrity out of the time tested and honorable ranking process

Man I really hope Western Michigan can go undefeated in 2023 for the honor of getting beat 62-10 and hang a banner.

They may have flipped the 3 and 4 seed for matchup purposes in the past, but as far as leaving a legit team out of a 4 team playoff...I don't think that's happened much (or really at all).

The idea that no P5 conference will automatically qualify is silly. There's no way they leave a P5 conference out of it.

In a 12 team bracket, P5 Conference Champs SHOULD automatically qualify.

Whodafuq cares. Gives 8 more teams a reason to be psyched for another couple weeks AND at some point the mental will over come the physical and "upsets" will happen. (Same as basketball now...) Of course, different sports... Only X number of physically able football D1 humans in the world, etc. etc. etc.

Also, fuck talk radio and espn and the hype machine who would put value in that. I REALLY don't care about "oh another blow out" whaaaa whining shit... If anyone cared, they would cut P5 schollies by 20 per team and get some real competition but you never hear of that being a serious option.

So essentially the REAL problem is Alabama (and Clemson, tOSU) hoarding players. That should be the focus and would "fix the problem" (assuming you are not a bama fan)...

Hell, essentially that's what Duffy did in the 60's with southern black guys, but the racism was the underpinning rationale allowing it... until it wasn't... then we sucked.

It's a straight money grab.

Cutting scholarships and rosters would make football more competitive, and save money, because you could also cut 20 women's scholarships. That would be a tough sell though. G5 conferences might have to go that route at some point.

So, when this all starts next season, there might be some chilly games on campus...

2024 College Football Playoff First round:
(5 vs. 12, 6 vs. 11, 7 vs. 10, 8 vs. 9)

Friday, Dec. 20: One game

Saturday, Dec. 21: Three games

And the Big Ten Championship moves to Thanksgiving Weekend and possibly Black Friday?
