Agree. Maybe she did sell it a bit, but so what. It made a much-needed point. That has to be so frustrating as a player. This is a problem, and somebody could get hurt. It would be nice if the NCAA would find a way to keep coaches and fans off the court.
Agree on the coaches. Not on the fans celebrating by storming the court or field after a game is part of the beauty of college sports. This wasn't some wacko maliciously out to get her. Caitlin has to pick her head up. She can drive by elite athletes, she should be able to dodge fatty coming from the baseline.
Sucks if she got injured.
I want to agree about the fans for the same reason, that it's part of what makes college sports great. Yet, I am more-or-less over it. Can we be sentimental about college sports while also monetizing every aspect and thinking of players as commodities? For me, we've drained college sports of its beauty.
While this fan was not acting maliciously, that says nothing about the potential for malicious action. We live in weird times, and I think it's unfair to ask players to navigate fans on the court while trying to return to the locker room. Not to mention, we have all been on the field or court after a tough loss and it's easy to get lost in your own thoughts as you immediately start replaying the game in your head looking for what went wrong.

When is the last time someone stormed the field and tore down the goalposts (yes they don't come down like before) after a football game? We lose traditions because people can't act responsibly. I understand it. There is a safety issue lot of money at stake. But it is also sad.
If NCAA basketball brought to you by Draft Kings had odds for injury as a result of court storming then they would be keeping the option for court storming open.

Planning for physical on court security, no not cops with guns, more like ushers to open a path for the players, might be a good idea?

How about false endings with random times on the scoreboard? Students looking at the clock might think there’s xx amount of time left, when in reality only the timekeeper or refs know the real time, so they can whistle the game done and players run off the court, while the fans in the stands are left wondering what happened.

Markley said the Big Ten’s game management manual addresses security. Reading from the manual, he said “host institutions must provide adequate security and protection for the visiting teams and officials and their vehicles immediately upon arrival on campus continuing through their departure.”
Pretty good article and this time it is all on OSU security management for not being ready.
Pretty sure the Michigan tunnel incident is all on Michigan, but somehow MSU was fined a record amount and punished.

“I was just trying to exit the court as quickly as possible, so I started running and I was absolutely just hammered by somebody trying to run onto the court. Basically blindsided and, you know, kind of scary, could have caused a pretty serious injury to me and knocked the wind out of me. But luckily my teammates kind of picked me up and got me off the court. Their AD already came and apologized to me, so I really appreciate that.”

People in charge of every venue that hosts an Iowa women’s basketball game this season knows those high ticket sales aren’t so fans can watch Lisa Bluder coach.
They’re going to have campus police other law enforcement ready to escort the visiting team and its coaches to the locker room.
Rushing the court is a lot easier than rushing football fields. 5’+ walls haven’t stopped fans from jumping

I think MSU tried this. In a football game. 2001. Against UM.

I want to like her because I know she's had to put up with all manner of misogynistic nonsense to become a female icon in a male-dominated sport, but her "classy" response to an incident that she initiated was utter horseshit. She flopped.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a WNBA game in prime time on a major network. Fox loves her.

Yes on Covid year. Indiana Fever have the #1 pick in the WNBA draft, so she could remain in the Midwest if that matters. Not sure it does, but she does seem to really embrace the Midwest.

Players? State Farm, Google, CarMax, Gatorade, Under Armor off the top of my head. WNBA players are in lots of ads relative to years ago.

There is some jealousy going on there. It's hard for athletes who have been "all that" all their lives to share the stage or allow themselves to be upstaged.

Maybe Swoopes is upset by what she perceives as racial bias, that previous black players were comparatively ignored. If true, I understand, but think it is a misperception. Even if that is entirely the case, Clark is not a mediocre player propped up for TV. She is an incredible talent who clearly works extraordinarily hard at her craft. She is the real deal.
I think Trapper is right, it is probably more jealousy than anything. However, Swoopes should be mad at the system, not Clark. Everything about college sports is monetized, including turning players into commodities not unlike professional sports. It was only a matter of time before they found a women’s CBB player with the kind of skillset, it is perfect that it is a versatile guard with unlimited range, to get people to watch and gamble on the sport. Not to mention, Swoopes played before social media and YouTube, so visibility and marketing the sport was much harder. A lot of great women players went without media attention because it was difficult to circulate their highlights and publicize them. Clark is just playing her best, working hard, and it is the system that is doing the rest.
