Also a great passer, incredible handle and good rebounder. She had at least 5 dimes last night that her teammates couldn't catch and finish. Probably not D1 but I truly believe she could compete with the men at most levels of college basketball

IU had NO ONE guarding the inbounds passer and still let her catch the ball?

Yeah not sure how you don't have 2 people denying her the catch

When Michigan was in the ff against Looyville I think, near the end of the game Michigan took the ball out at mid court. Â On the inbounds the Michigan player shoved the opposing player with his non-dribbling arm and the opposing player went down, maybe a flop, but when I was young any contact was a foul on someone. I was livid and vocal, my UofM child and my SO were pissed at me.

I mean, all I did was post accurate data. She is not a "tiny ass human." By the way, Loyer is averaging 17 points per game this season and just had 33 points the other night. Carry on.

Loyer does not have those problems at Davidson, a better mid-major program than CMU (which was the conversation's baseline until you intentionally moved the goalposts). Back in the day, Summit's UT teams practiced against men and routinely kicked their ass.
By the way, do you run a youth basketball league in Alabama?

Re: Caitlin Clark
generally I would agree that even the best women would not compete with men athletically. But damn Catllin is a freak. Step back 30 footers are difficult to guard. No question she would hold her own against the boys. Probably not D1 but certainly on lower levels.Turtleneck wrote:AvgMSUJoe wrote:you wont convince me... Stop now....
My son's baseball team's best player was a girl until high school, then she couldn't hit a fastball and she couldn't just blow fastballs by the boys anymore. (She ended up winning a state championship in softball)... at some point it's just nature.

I agree with this. However, I’m guessing, even though that girl couldn’t throw the speedball by anybody anymore or get around on a fastball, she was still better than one or two of the players that made that high school baseball team.
So I don’t know if this girl could hang or not but I bet she’s better than somebody deep in the Central Michigan roster.

That story didn't pass the smell test so I did some digging. The article posted (I use that term loosely) is simply a recap of a mom's Facebook post. The mom glossed over and left out a few important details.
The girls team was considered a "competitive" team competing in a rec league. The article doesnt specifically state what the difference is, but anyone that has kids in sports can draw some conclusions between rec leagues (community sponsered/random draw/non-travel) and competitive teams (privately sponsered/hand picked/travel teams/AAU/etc.).
The mom even states they've been together as a "competitive" team for 3 years representing Spain Park (whatever the fuck that is). Basically it is a young girls AAU team playing against rec boys. Note, they have a rec girls league too. The rules of the tournie state "competitive" teams can compete, but arent eligible for trophies. If it was a boys "competitive" team, the result would be the same. Kinda dumb that they let "competitive" teams in the tournie, but whatever. Regardless of how dumb or fair the rule is, it is not a gender issue that this mom tries to make it out to be.

Growth in women's sports is huge and the more girls compete, the closer the gap will get. Girls are just starting to get the same opportunities, support, etc. And it's not just opportunities, but old societal norms that steered more men toward sports than women. We've had a huge headstart.
I see it everyday in the gym. More and more younger girls/women are getting into lifting, crossfit, etc. I've seen a huge jump in 18+ year old girls training at the gym. And the ones that do are committed, train hard; have better technique and stronger than a lot of the complacent dudes, etc.
I would not be surprised to see women competing in men's college/pro leagues before I die.

I think Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about that girl. Or maybe it was John Mellencamp.
At the end of the day, I am just saying that whenever there is a thread about women's sports, especially basketball, somebody rolls in and does the "Well, they couldn't beat (insert male or men's team)." We get it. By comparison, men have enhanced skills due to size, speed, and strength advantages. But we don't do this anywhere else. We didn't run down MSU's recent 11-2 season because they would have been wrecked by the KC Chiefs, even though we are talking about the same sport and differences in size, speed, and strength. It's just this weird reaction that comes up in mostly male spaces when the conversations turns to women's sports.
