Re: tOfficial MSU Basketball Recruiting Thread: Class of 2016 (Part I)
A recruiting breakdown of Deyonta Davis...says a lot will ride on his play next year. I'm not sure the team goes the way of Davis, but he will need to be able to step in and add inside scoring and rebounding (in the absence of Dawson).
http://www.btpowerhouse.com/recruiting/2015/3/5/8119521/recruiting-breakdown-2015-5-star-michigan-state-commit-deyonta-davis
The Spartans lose Travis Trice and Branden Dawson to graduation after this season, so not only will Davis see a lot of playing time immediately, but it seems like the team will end up being as good as he is next year: if he's okay, MSU will end up with a season like this one or slightly worse, but if he's great (not hard to imagine), then MSU will be in the thick of the B1G championship race come February 2016.

Q: What is the latest with Caleb Swanigan? -- @SpartyinMD25
A: Phew. It has been a couple of weeks since the Swanigan question. I was starting to get worried for you guys.
247sports reported yesterday that Swanigan (the five-star 2015 forward prospect from Fort Wayne) visited Michigan State for its Wednesday game against Purdue.
That will likely end up being his last campus visit to see a game during the basketball season: his high school team is playing Friday and (likely) Saturday in the state playoffs, and none of his key suitors have Sunday home games. It may not mean much -- the visit was rescheduled after Swanigan cancelled a scheduled earlier visit due to a snowstorm -- but being the last school to host a key recruit to see a game isn't a bad thing.
Things will probably be quiet for a few weeks now as Swanigan and his suitors both start the drive for championships. Swanigan has said consistently that he'll be waiting until after the season to make any sort of announcement as to his destination, and the Indiana state finals aren't until March 28.
More recent reports have said that Swanigan will wait not only for the end of his season to announce but until after high school all-star games. That means we could be on Swanigan watch until late April.

2016 MSU offer Jamal Murray playing in the All-Canadian All-Star Game
Possible headliners will include Jamal Murray, a standout guard who attends Orangeville Prep, who was once MVP at the renowned Jordan Brand Classic, and has drawn interest from powerhouses such as Michigan State and Maryland. His teammate could be another – Thon Maker, a 7-foot star from South Sudan who grew up in Australia but has chosen to finish his high school basketball career in Canada. The athletes will be nominated and voted on by an 11-person committee of Canadian youth basketball experts from across the country, including coaches, provincial reps, scouts and writers.

Re: tOfficial MSU Basketball Recruiting Thread: Class of 2016 (Part I)
Between Duke likely losing Jahlil Okafor, Louisville losing Montrezl Harrell, and Kentucky losing Karl-Anthony Towns and Willie Cauley-Stein, Swanigan would have any number of options to potentially replace an important frontcourt player at these different programs.
However, this could also be shaping up to be another big recruiting battle between Coach K and his good friend Tom Izzo. Duke won the recruiting bonanza of another 5-star high schooler two years ago when Jabari Parker committed to becoming a Blue Devil over the Spartans, but Michigan State has been heavily recruiting Swanigan for the past couple years and he’s the type of player who would be the perfect fit in the tough, physical style Izzo prefers.

Maybe Zach should give him a call? As another star front-court player from Indiana who spent a year at Michigan State, earned a trip to the Final Four and currently sits 128th on the NBA all-time scoring list, I'm sure Zach can relate.

2016 offer Jamal Murray playing for the World Team and the Nike Hoop Summit.
http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/25102661/world-team-roster-announced-for-2015-nike-hoop-summit
Jamal Murray is another intriguing prospect that could eventually play in the NBA. He's a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Canada with a terrific wingspan and great scoring instincts. A member of the Class of 2016 recruiting class, he's the No. 58 prospect in that class with Syracuse, Oregon and Michigan State among the favorites to secure his collegiate services.

Pearl is sneaky. He might be able to get the kid. I don't know...you either grow up Bama or Auburn. Auburn was terrible this year though, and Bama fired their coach. Nobody really cares about hoops in Alabama. He plays for one of the best AAU teams in Atlanta. He has to be looking at a big basketball school.

Swanigan says a few words about his final seven.
http://www.news-sentinel.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20150318/SPORTS/150319642/1007
In terms of words, he said the fewest about Purdue and MSU. He actually committed 30 words to Chicago State, so he clearly has them ranked higher than MSU.

Swanigan is the Gatorade Player of the Year from Indiana.
Homestead senior Caleb Swanigan has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Indiana in boys basketball.
Swanigan, a 6-9 senior, has led Homestead (27-2) to the Class 4A semistate, where it will play South Bend Riley on Saturday with a bid to the state finals on the line. Swanigan is averaging 22.1 points and 14.3 rebounds as a senior for Homestead.
Swanigan, ranked as a top-20 player nationally in the 2015 class by most recruiting services, is uncommitted. He recently cut his list to seven schools - Arizona, Cal, Chicago State, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State and Purdue. Swanigan was selected as a McDonald's All-American in January.

Gotta love his quote on Kentucky:
“You don't know who is going to leave and when they are going to leave, but Kentucky is obviously the best organization in college basketball right now, so that's something you definitely have to look at.”
Considering how sleazy Coach Cal is, "organization" just felt too perfect to read.

I guess he wasn't that impressed with Michigan if he immediately took an unofficial to Cal.
One of my UNC buddies said they are out of it for him, and that he might go to...
Georgia.
That would be quite the sales job if UGA pulls that one off.
Saw him play a few times. He can get up.

Could be Michigan bound if they offer. MSU has not offered.
The 6-foot-9 Edwards, who averaged 18.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.5 blocks per game, visited U-M over the weekend and might be on the verge of a scholarship offer.
"He likes Michigan a lot," said Rockey Black, the president of the Michigan Warriors AAU program. "The funny thing is his dad was a football player at Michigan State. "I really believe that Michigan is probably going to offer him. They need a big, and he's very intriguing at that level. He loves Michigan; he loved Michigan State. If (Michigan) offered him, I think he would take it."

Martin wants to compete for a national championship at Cal and his recruiting efforts have been in line with those aspirations: the Bears appear to be among the finalists for three five-star prospects rated by Scout.com as the No. 1 center, power forward and small forward in the country.

Big difference between recruiting and signing. However, the Cal program probably has a lot more to sell than we think. Location, PAC 12 and exposure, and quality of education immediately come to mind.
