EAST LANSING – Russell Byrd would finish up practice at Breslin Center, shower in an opulent locker room and dine on as much of that day's catered food as he liked before heading home.

Things changed when he got to The Master's College in Santa Clarita, Calif., and not just because he was heading home to a wife and child.

"You'd have to go home and make some macaroni or whatever," Byrd said. "And then you'd wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning and go to your job because you've got to make some money."

It was a challenging year for Byrd, but a productive one as well, living with his young family – wife Klarissa Bell, who played for the MSU women's team when he played for the MSU men, and their daughter, 6-month-old Addison – and rediscovering his game at the NAIA school. Now comes the payoff.

I know a kid that works at tBres - he was taking us there to play on the court.. We had to go in the auxiliary gym because Byrd was on the main one training for the NBA....

I have long thought that MSU just didn't do enough for him. I can't believe you were so selfish to play on the auxiliary gym when he might have needed that, too.

The nba is perfect for Byrd since they don't play any defense he'll get those uncontested three point attempts that he was able to hit in practice but not come close to in college.

He isn't in the NBA. He'll be playing in Israel in their second-tier division.
