Report: Ex-Tiger Yoenis Cespedes waives time-restraint clause in contract

DETROIT -- There's still a chance the Detroit Tigers will target Yoenis Cespedes this offseason in hopes of signing the five-tool outfielder to a long-term deal.

But Detroit's chances of bringing him back seemingly took a big hit Tuesday.

Cespedes has agreed to waive the clause in his contract that would have given the New York Mets only five days after the World Series ended to re-sign him.

If no deal was struck in that period, Cespedes would have been prohibited from re-signing with the Mets until May 2016. Now, they will have the same opportunity to negotiate with Cespedes as a free agent as the other teams in the league
