Graduate transfer DE in the mix for the 2016 season?

Sherrod was expected to compete for a starting job immediately after totaling 64 tackles, including 25 for loss, and eight sacks as a redshirt junior at Delaware State last season. His 2.3 tackles for loss per game ranked second in the FCS.

"They felt that they needed to move on for their own protection," Sherrod said. "to make sure that they had somebody locked in."

Sherrod said that he'll have his undergraduate degree in Mathematics soon after finishing a three-credit online course next week. That wasn't the issue.

He declined to comment about interactions that took place with other schools while he was committed to SU, including a rumored visit to Michigan State.

"At the end of the day, it's a business," Sherrod said. "But it's easier to understand when you're 22 than 18."

SU head coach Dino Babers is not allowed to comment on Sherrod as he is an unsigned player, per NCAA rules.

Future Michigan State receiver Trishton Jackson puts on show in East-West All-Star Football Game

SAGINAW, MI — When Trishton Jackson asked the Michigan State coaches if he could play in the East-West All-Star Football Game, they had one bit of advice.

"They told me to have fun," Jackson said. "That was it. Play, enjoy yourself, have fun."

The West Bloomfield graduate followed the Spartans' advice, leading all receivers with six catches and helping the East earn a 20-14 win Saturday over the West in the 34th annual Michigan High School Football Coaches All-Star Football Game at Saginaw Valley State University.

Jackson, a 6-foot-2 receiver, caught six passes for 62 yards, including a long of 22 yards. He also ran once for two years and returned to kicks for 16 yards.

"It was a good way to prepare for Michigan State and college," Jackson said. "I got to play with a lot of talented players and against some great players. I lived in the dorm, ate the food ... did everything you do in college."

Anticipated MSU football freshman class arrives Tuesday

They’re enjoying the final vestiges of their summer and childhood over the long holiday weekend.

Come Tuesday, Michigan State’s newest football players all will be learning to balance the advanced academic workload and life away from home with the demands of being a lowly freshman again on the field.

Their journey from prized high school recruits to college students will be complete, their next phase of football just beginning. Mark Dantonio's most highly regarded 2016 class finally will arrive on campus.

The Spartans’ final 14 incoming players get to East Lansing next week to begin their classes, start training with MSU’s strength coaches and get in individual workouts with their teammates in preparation for preseason camp in early August. They’ll join the other eight who enrolled in January and offensive lineman Matt Allen, who arrived in late May.

The Lansing State Journal caught up with a few of them to find out what their preparation, hopes and concerns are in the days leading up to arriving on campus.

[size=36]Meyers seemed like an easy one, senior buried on the depth chart with a lot of younger players ahead of him. There are two more that have a similar feel. I wouldn't be surprised if we see one of them drop before the season starts.[/size]

Not surprised at all. It is not hard to pick out seniors that are buried on the depth chart as grad transfers. The Draymond thing might of tipped it over the edge and makes the timing seem suspicious. I'm sure Moose and UofM trolls will pile on, but he was a senior and third on the spring depth chart. Add in Meyers troubles last year and Edmondon missing spring practice and 2+2=4.
