Nah, I was thinking about an exchange of GUIDs. The user generates one for themselves and keeps it secret and Ty generates one for each user. The user then encrypts the GUID generated by Ty using their secret GUID as the key and sends Ty the encrypted version back to him. Only the user and Ty know what GUID Ty sent to that user, and only the user can decrypt the GUID sent to Ty and recover the original GUID, which must match the one that Ty sent. That proves the user is who they claim to be since nobody else can possibly know their secret key since it never gets transmitted.
