I have to agree with Nordic, you skipped a couple of episodes. You may want to make sure you watch episode 2 (and possibly episode 1 and 3).

I'm in the midst of re-watching the series (I'm around the middle of Season 3). I don't usually do that, but a while back, I flipped over to one of the HBO channels, it was some episode in Season 2, I think. I couldn't believe how much stuff I was picking up, and I was into it enough that I thought I'd give it a try from the start.

Yeah, I've missed/forgot a ton over the course of the series. Mostly it has to do with characters. As someone who never read the books, I could never keep the names, alliances, etc. straight. And when each new season started, I wouldn't remember much from the previous one. It's not like I was missing out on the plot, but I missed a lot of connections between various things. There seem to be quite a few characters with bit parts, or only mentioned by name and not shown in the first couple of seasons, that have more relevance later on.

It seems the stream I selected to start watching, and then when I went back and hit "resume" it took me back to that stream - was for a diff episode. I got about 2/3 of the way into it before you guys convinced me to quit. Can someone definitively tell me which one it was? (i.e. 3, 4, 5, etc?)

I was drunk enough Saturday that I wasn't sure if the Snow/Stark team had plotted something and were executing it to perfection or if what Shmooth said was happening. It was definitely the later.

Ok I rewatched the S6 finale to get ready for the new season. I tried to pay pretty close attention this time as the last time I watched it, I was on my "optional" work retreat, hiding from the masses and a bit tipsy.

I do not really understand the flashback from Bran when he hits the tree. It's Ned, and it's his sister? and she's bloody why? And the baby is Jon Snow? And she is telling Ned he must protect Jon Snow because someone? Robert? will kill him if he finds out?

I do recall Robert talking about Ned's sister and her being the one he always wanted or something.

The assumption (and likely fact) is that the dad is one of the Targaryeans. I can't remember which but it would make Jon Dani's cousin. So, she was telling Ned to protect him since Rob would kill him as he wanted to destroy that bloodline. I assumed she was bleeding after dying in child birth, not much more to it.

What Travis said. This is what is told in the books by different characters as old stories...

- The Mad King's son (Prince Rhaegar Targaryen) "kidnapped" Ned's sister (Lyanna Stark) and held in that Tower
- Robert Barathean (fat king from S1) was supposed to Mary Lyanna
- They start a war.. lots of people die... Robert becomes King
- Ned goes to find his sister, kills that famous knight dude and finds his sister dying. Ned doesn't say why.
- Ned comes back from war with a bastard child (Jon Snow)... which is obv un-Ned-like.

The part where Bran sees Ned, Lyanna and Jon (allegedly) doesn't/hasn't happened yet in the books. But it is obv a huge deal for not only the entire plot of the story, but for also confirming all the conspiracy theories on who Jon really is (Targaryen) for book readers.

It is interesting to go back and watch the scene in S1 when Ned and Robert are traveling to King's Landing. They are chit chatting around the fire (no message boards back then) and Ned is really evasive when talk of old war stories/Jon come up.

That's why he is cool with him going to the wall. His secret is safer there.

I believe so. Older brother...either that or cousins...I can't remember exactly...but pretty sure they are all brother & sister.

Which is the beauty of the series. The whole thing...6 books and 6 seasons...is a long con. Your focused on the battles and bigger picture stuff and he slips in nuggets of info that are easily glossed over.

Like Hodor. That episode where they show how he got his name blew me away. To set that up 6 books/seasons away is insane.
