MSU to welcome largest, most diverse freshman class
Michigan State University’s incoming freshman class is predicted to be the largest and most diverse in the school’s history, with more than 8,400 anticipated students.
The university’s enrollment projection of new incoming students for the 2018-19 academic year is based on the number of admitted students who paid their admissions deposit by the May 1 commitment date. Overall, the number of admitted students who have submitted deposits is up more than 2 percent from last year.
The colleges of Arts and Letters, Engineering, Natural Science, Nursing and Social Science all reflect double-digit freshman enrollment increases.
According to preliminary data, the 2018-19 freshman class represents the second-largest domestic non-resident total in university history.
Among domestic students, African-American enrollment is up nearly 24 percent. MSU continues to have the largest population of African-American students in the Big Ten. Hispanic enrollment is up 25 percent, while Asian enrollment climbed 36 percent.

I realize that we're in a panic bubble here at tSwill and in East Lansing, but this is welcome news.Floyd Robertson wrote: MSU to welcome largest, most diverse freshman classMichigan State University’s incoming freshman class is predicted to be the largest and most diverse in the school’s history, with more than 8,400 anticipated students.

I’m more in a cynic stasis, and this increase represents additional monies available for Nassar-related settlements following inevitable tuition hike(s).

Re: General MSU thread
For years, Chinese students flocked to MSU. Now their numbers are declining.
The number of Chinese undergraduates on campus has fallen by more than 13% since 2014. The number of international students who have said they'll be enrolling as freshmen next fall is down 28% percent from the year before, with most of that drop coming from Chinese students said Jim Cotter, director of MSU’s Office of Admissions.
The university could soon face the challenge of filling a China-sized hole in its enrollment puzzle or adjusting to a new economic reality, and that's on top of the $500 million settlement MSU reached with hundreds of victims of former university doctor Larry Nassar.
“The Chinese population on campus grew so quickly that, to some degree, we are beginning to perhaps level-out to a more appropriate number,” Cotter said. “Chinese enrollment rose so quickly that I’m not sure it represented truly what was sustainable.”

I had heard/read some jokes about how many Chinese nationals were at MSU, but had no idea that at one point it was like 10% of all undergrads. That's clazy.

She has a good four years of work left in her. Even two to get the ship right. But, it appears as though she's willing to help find some body but perhaps wants to just relax afterwards.

This seems like a positive contribution to MSU from a successful alum. Hopefully it indicates that the search is on the right track.

The Gold Standard of Cancer drugs
That proven treatment was cisplatin. Created in 1844 by an Italian chemist, cisplatin’s use as a cancer treatment was discovered at Michigan State University in 1965.
The chemical compound—which prevents the DNA in cancer cells from replicating, confusing them and causing them to die—is used to treat many types of cancer, but is most widely prescribed for testicular, ovarian, bladder, lung and stomach cancers. With a cure rate north of 90 percent for testicular cancer, cisplatin has become the gold standard to which many new cancer medicines are compared.

hate to clog this thread up with bad news, but I didn't want to start a whole new thread.
Apparently an MSU student was shot and killed last night - up at one of the apartment complexes off of Chandler Road.
Not much good happens after midnight.
sad stuff.

I don't go to msuspartans.com very much during the off season. I've noticed over the last weeks that site went through a redesign and is Learfield now instead of powered by CBS Sports.
So now Tieman is running MSU's sports website?
It totally blows, by the way.
