I like the spatchcock idea, you've got the grill for it...and eff stuffing.
Skin off, before cooking??? I'd be worried about it drying out..

Traditional. Rubbed down with salt and then slathered with a garlic herb butter. We’re actually doing it today as we will be in Northport for Thanksgiving with my dad and we want my mom to have some good food. And my sisters kids will probably eat most of it anyway. Wife making a cinnamon pie and a pumpkin pie and a green bean casserole. Various roasted or pan fried veggies.

Re: tOfficial “how I’m doing my bird” for Thanksgiving thread.
We will be doing to double thanksgiving again. Drive an hour 45 min for my family, eat, drive back for in-laws.
My family always does roasted chicken. My grandpa who has been the main chef until the last few years, doesn’t like turkey.
I have no idea how the in-laws do it. There are 2 of 3 turkeys as there is usually around 65 people . They also have meatballs, kielbasa, and ham on thanksgiving.

Spatchcocked chickens on the grill are great....should work on a turkey if you can keep the moisture up.

Dry brined and roasted. The exact roasting method is still to be determined.

If anyone can, WBH will, but I'm waiting to see how he does this sans skin.

Yeah I've done the spatchcock for the past few years. Just reading that without the skin is how Franklin does his turkeys. I'm not sure if true. I see info online about him doing boneless or bone-in breasts that way, but not whole birds. Still researching....

Hopefully it's a nice enough day to lounge in my MIL's pool while she does the cooking. And for the record, she doesn't allow anyone to help help, let alone ever allow someone else to do the cooking, so it's not like I even have to feel guilty about it.

From what I recall, and if my historical knowledge is fact, didn’t the Indiana bring deer to the dinner? Overall nothing is known what was first eaten. Maybe my thoughts are wrong, and I’m too damn lazy to look shit up.
But venison sounds better for thanksgiving anyway. My 2 cents

I think they did bring a deer. But then they took it back.

Leave it to the Hoosiers to not know the difference between a deer and a turkey. Forks down!Dendrobates wrote:From what I recall, and if my historical knowledge is fact, didn’t the Indiana bring deer to the dinner? Overall nothing is known what was first eaten. Aunt Eunice’s bird (I always start with the assumption Uncle Louis and Aunt Eunice will find a roadkill bird) always looks exactly like that. Not from hot Cheetos, but from about four full cans of Old Bay.

All sounds good but may I make a suggestion? Substitute mashed rutabaga for the butternut squash. It's awesome with turkey gravy. Been a regular part of Thanksgiving dinner since I was a kid.LooseGoose wrote:Me:
