The fact that it is the Cavs makes it even better.

Best thing Gilbert has done for MSU lately.

Gilbert is going to buy the Tigers in the next 5 years. Wonder if he plans on keeping the Cavs. Interesting move. I'm not sure I see JB's offensive system as great a fit in the NBA.

Man had a heart attack, just lost three main players, nearing the end of his coaching career. Why not?

He left for all the same reasons that Izzo almost did the same damn thing. And he’s probably right. Spending all of your days sucking up to 15 year olds gets old.

Yep, I'd kill myself or somebody. Then, whoring yourself out to the big shots. At least Izzo doesn't pay them money. You need a special personality to do that.

Wow. Izzo broke his spirit with those three wins and he'll always be in the shadow of Jim Harbaugh. Good riddance John Beilein.

So, I was actually wondering if that had something to do with it. I mean, two finals, probably should have beat Louisville. Great Big Ten record, developed players. Did well at finding the talent he needed and used it well. And forever, treated as the step child at Michigan. He was a second class coach there. And frankly, in my lifetime, I think he was the best coach they had in the two major sports. Better than Bo, better than Harbaugh, better than Frieder, Fischer. He was getting paid well, but I think the Harbaugh regime proved to him, he will always be a second thought there.

Maybe some of that second-fiddle played into it. As far as coaching and selling his program, Harbaugh could only dream of accomplishing what Belein did.
I bet it had more to do with his age being his last NBA chance, a mass-exodus of players leaving early and an offer he couldn't refuse.

Re: John Beilein to the Cavs
Beilein doesn't strike me as having the type of ego that is really going to care about playing 2nd fiddle to the football program. Izzo embraces being second fiddle, even if it's only sort of true.

Might work out for both of them. Howard needs head coaching experience. Michigan needs a stop gap guy ASAP. But who knows. Was anyone on staff worth a damn?

Re: John Beilein to the Cavs
The rumblings are that the assistant coach they brought in, the defensive guru, Yaklich, could be the best fit.
I don't think they'd bring a Fab 5 guy back.

I heard he was in consideration for the Lakers job. With all his time on the bench as an assistant I think he'll move up to a HC job before too long. He many want to go back to A2 who knows, but I just get vibes from him that he's all about the league.

Beilein's buyout was $0.
Not a great job by the AD on that one.

This list is hysterical. I'd be stunned if a pro coach left OKC or Boston to coach in Ann Arbor.

Holy shit delusional.
Of the 3 on that list NOT from crazyland... two are current assistants.

Yeah, it's funny. I'm shocked they left Popovich and Steve Kerr off the list. Hell Maybe Lebron or Durant would like to retire early so they can take up a first time coaching gig in Ann Arbor.

I'm surprised he didn't float Izzo to UM if we're going to crazytown.

Re: John Beilein to the Cavs
U of M can pay pretty damn well, so I don't think that's a deal. We all know that a big reason is not having to recruit, so that's a big negative for a college trying to get a professional to come back and coach. But whatever, there's good and bad about every job. I know I'm doine being shocked about any of this. Coaches leaving or getting hired.

I'd say the bottom 3 on the list (excluding Pitino) are way more likely than the top 3.

Re: John Beilein to the Cavs
Just some last thoughts and honestly after this I probably won't give a fuck until they make a hire:
1) I buy into that the odds they improve on their current situation are pretty damn slim
2) Michigan fans seem to think that Beilein was holding them back from recruiting (it's all about winning recruiting titles in that town). I don't see this happening unless they are open to hiring a cheater. If they hire a cheater with the improved facilities maybe they would start landing the 5 star croots
3) I think they go for the guy from Butler or an assistant
